Joseph Mayo (Author). Find all the books, read about the author, and more. Only area I would have really appreciated more coverage on were DELEGATES and perhaps a bit more coverage on OO design. C Unleashed is probably the best all around book on C that I have read.

This book is the only complete and exhaustive C reference book on the market today. All other C books are brief treatments.

Part I provides the most basic elements of C# language syntax.

Part II covers object and component programming in C#.

Part III introduces several of the class libraries available to C#.

Part IV gives those advanced topics for extreme performance and enterprise programming projects.

Part V goes into depth on the C# environment. Included are garbage collection and the effects on a program., cross-language development, the common language runtime, versioning and assemblies, and providing security for your programs.

Part VI is the Appendix. It has supplementary material on compiling programs, an overview of .NET Class Library components, and some other resources that may be of interest.

i think this is a good book,it has enough information about all the C# topics. you can use it as a reference, some times you get loose and you don't even know where to start, so this book helps you to understand where to go with your problems. I like a lot the examples used because they are simple and clear. It is deep enough to be good for some one that has been programming in C# for a long time, and it is very well explained that some that does not know where to start learning can understand it

Well this is a great book of the fundamentals of C#. The 3/4 of the book were written good enough. The last 1/4 covering the web stuff was touched briefly but there are other books for writing ASP.NET and Web Services with detailed information.

hello again.
Its me .net learner.
I hav thoroughly covered throught the examples after starting on
alot of beginner wrox books. This must be book number 9 for
me in the ,net series.
This books has a very good coverage on classes.
The examples on the remoting, I cannot get working even though
I have had the ones in wrox books working.
It is true the asp.net coverage is non existent, but if more
explanations and clearly laid out downloadable examples were
provided , this could have been a very good book.
.Net remoting is a very important topic and having removed
that from the books make this book very dull since alot of
other topics are not covered in this book.

I am familiar with similar languages and do not really see a big use for this one. However the book gives a good argument for it and is very informative on its use and the necessary supporting environment. This makes a good reference book for future projects. If nothing else it tells you how to pronounce the name of the language.

Mayo covers a huge amount of ground in the pages of _C# Unleashed_. The book touches upon virtually every C# topic available. Mayo's writing is clear and easy to digest, and he has filled the book with code examples that illustrate the various features.

More advanced readers should note that while this book is huge in breadth, it does lack some depth in places. It does not go into extensive detail on some of the more advanced topics, although syntax and brief descriptions are included.

For beginners, I think this book will serve as an excellent introduction to the language. And for more advanced users, this book will certainly act as an excellent reference when you've forgotten some syntax or especially when you need to see an example in context and the MSDN Library hasn't provided something adequate.

I have ASP.Net Unleashed and think it is a great book. Unfortunately, ASP.Net Unleashed is all VB.Net code. I bought C# Unleashed hoping that it would help to fill in where ASP.Net was C# bare.
I've found C# Unleashed to be a bit too superficial. It covers a wide variety of topics, but doesn't go into enough detail. I like how ASP.Net gives you all the details without Visual Studio.Net wizards. C# Unleashed seems to run the wizard, copy the code into the book, and then explain a little bit about each line.
I'd like to see some more complete examples for some more advanced topics, and more detail about what the code is actually doing. I often find myself doing the examples and then having lots of questions about how to properly extend them.
Also, if you are looking for a reference book, this isn't it. Often classes have one simple example and more information about the class isn't available. I've found MSDN to be much more helpful.

C# Unleashed is an excellent book for someone who already knows
a programming language and wants a quick yet solid introduction to C#. The chapters are well structured and chock full of examples. Instead of the usual foobar type of examples the examples are clear and some of them may be used directly in ones own code. Each of the examples are well described in the text so that one can focus on a problem without having to read the whole chapter.
The book can also be used as a practical reference. "Tough" topics like Remoting, Network libraries etc. are also covered.
The text is well written and easy to read. Some Text Books are boring but this is not one of them.
The chapter on Interfaces as an example, is one of the best I have read.
...I look forward to more of his books.
This book really delivers on the promises set forth on the back cover. An easy read, you'll find yourself digging into the "heavy stuff" in no time.

What's really neat however is that most, if not all of the code is console (command prompt based) based. Too many times I've opened books from Microsoft and found partial snippets based on form driven application only needing a line or two of code to complete the project. C# Unleashed however, getz you into the grit without the "fluff" and provides example that take from start to finish.

Only area I would have really appreciated more coverage on were DELEGATES and perhaps a bit more coverage on OO design. These topics are a stretch for beginning programmers to master and a stretch even for those who have had a computer for x years (like me). On a brigher note, the DELEGATES material left me wanting more and I'm glad to say, I found it. I suppose it says something good for a book to encourage its readers to hunger for more.

I recommend this book to anyone starting out in C# and even for expereienced C#'rs wanting a bit of reference material. Its a good read.
