Off and On: that's what you'll be saying to the dealer at the craps table after you read this book! It means that one of the numbers you've had working for you on the board has hit while you were betting the come. The dealer hears this and expertly sets up your next bet while shoving the stack of chips that you've just won toward you. Sweet.

And yet virtually no one else at the craps table understands what just happened! Why is that?

The typical craps table is filled with bets that a craps player should never make. And the bets that give a craps player the best odds of winning are *completely unmarked!* Why is that?

It's because that's the way the casino wants it.

This book completely dissects every bet on a craps table. It explains the odds of winning for each bet, and then focuses on the bets you should be making, teaching you how to make those bets even though there are absolutely no indications on the craps table for them.

For my money, if you're going to play against the house, craps is the best game to play. Here's why: 1) Unless you count cards, your best odds of winning are at the craps table; 2) Everyone at a craps table is typically on the same side of the bet -- you'll never be cheering while someone else is cursing; and 3) You stand when you play, so your feet remind you to take a break.

I've been at hot craps tables, where a shooter is rolling the dice for twenty minutes or more. It's amazing how much money you can win in such situations. The problem is that you never know when a table is going to get hot. This book teaches you how to make your money last while you're waiting for that streak, and then how to capitalize on it when it arrives.

Maybe I'll see you at a table sometime. You'll know me as I'll be the one saying "off and on." ;-)

I have played craps at casinos from Atlantic City to Las Vegas (as well as in some out-of-the-way spots like Vancouver, BC and Mountaineer, WV) and without a doubt, Silberstang's book is the absolute BEST if you are looking to really learning about craps. I have read and re-read this book and have given copies to relatives and friends. His easy-to-read and easy-to-understand style makes learning this game a real pleasure.

If you have ever stood behind a craps table filled with "fleas" yelling and having a great time and wondered how to play and how to join in on the action, then take my advice and buy this book. You will learn the types of bets to make and those to avoid. You will understand how the odds are figured and why casino craps is the BEST game to play with respect to house advantage. For example, did you know that the "odds bet" is the ONLY bet in the casino that has no house advantage? You get paid the TRUE odds with no percentage taken out by the house. Silberstang explains why this works to your advantage.

If you read this book and spend a brief time understanding the basics of craps, you will be able to stroll up to a craps table with confidence. I see people who do NOT understand the basics playing(and losing) everyday. Silberstang is a cleaver writer who will make you anxious to walk up and buy-in for $500 with confidence.

I have read many books on craps. This is far and away the best book for learning how to play craps correctly. Silberstang explains clearly and in detail everything you need to know about how to play the game. He explains which bets to play (pass line and come bets, and their associated free odds bets) and which to avoid (essentially all other bets). The book also provides a nice table giving the relative winning probabilities (player's vs house's edge) of all bets on the table. This is the only craps book you will ever need!

This is my first book on Craps so I don't have anything to compare it with. I found the book easy to read and learned a lot about the finer points of trying to play to win.

Winning Casino Craps by Edwin Silberstang

I've read this as well as others in the current crop of craps books. This lays out the entire game, as most do, and goes into appropriate detail on the best bets to make both normally and aggresively. These are not big suprises as bets go but the proper bet is not often a suprize.

For the price it's a bargain since the very same advice is found in the more recent books on offer. I've been through most of them and this same plan is spelled out over and over with some variation on how to press during a streak. I can't imagine what's in the later edition that gets it over $100 used (?).

The two star review above is fair enough, but the reviewer's only other review, a four star!, of "Wake Up and Smell the Roses". He likes that it has no filler on how the game is played. Fair enough, but, "Roses" is a tiny, pricey, badly made book describing only one betting system, and a terrible one at that.

Again, not much has changed since Silberstang. Highly recommended.

This book explains the game and odds clearly.
Also states the best bets to make for the best odds in your favor.
And of course, to stay away from the center of the craps layout.
The Come bet with full odds versus a place bet makes total sense.
A good book to have, to refer to again and again.

I am an idiot. Bought both editions of the same book!
Very informative!
