One thing this book does in an odd way beyond the laughs is show what humans are capable of doing in the name of greed. I guess I'd rather not know that the scammers and scam-baiters are really out there in the world. This book is NOT light hearted, funny reading.

Mike Berry's revenge is funny! Paperback, 2006. This book could be called "the best of" such tales. I had already read a few of the book's stories on the web site, but they are always funny - I laugh so hard every time that I end up all teary-eyed from the experience - from the laughter, that is, not because of the "tragic" circumstances the scammers are inventing.

Another reviewer said that they would not read this book in the presence of other people, such as an airplane. That person was right! You read things in this book that just makes you blurt out laughs - loud laughs. It is unbelievable what they get away with trying to scam the scammers.

On somewhat of a downside is the stories can become a bit tedious to go through and follow all the plot lines. The whole point is to humiliate the scammer, and you know it, and it happens over and over again. But the different ways in which this done are enough to keep you laughing, although some themes keep popping up over and over (not a big deal for me, but I can see how some people might get tired after just reading only a few of these stories).

One thing this book does in an odd way beyond the laughs is show what humans are capable of doing in the name of greed. Although we laugh at these despicable scammers, it is a sad commentary that there are those among us who 1) scam other people, and 2) do and say ridiculous things just on the faint hope of a profit. Of course, the scammers themselves rely on the greed of their intended marks. So I kind of felt a little less proud of being a human after reading this book.

Another thing that struck me is the issue of vigilantism (not sure I spelled this right, but m-w.com said I did!). When and where is it appropriate? I side with the author on the issue, but I am not totally sure. Read and make up your on mind on that issue. But regardless of what you may think on this, you will laugh.

I've been a long time fan of the "419 Eater" web site and its endless supply of hilarity. This book could be called "the best of" such tales. I had already read a few of the book's stories on the web site, but they are always funny -- I laugh so hard every time that I end up all teary-eyed from the experience -- from the laughter, that is, not because of the "tragic" circumstances the scammers are inventing. I highly recommend the book *and* the web site, both of which will provide hours of amusement and astonishment about the greed and avarice these perps display. You may also be impressed with their tenacity, as many of the scams involve weeks or months of e-mails, faxes and phone calls back and forth.

The book contains photos that are just as entertaining as the stories. In case you think the author is just being an old meanie, keep in mind that many people have fallen for the purported "Christian" or otherwise "charitable" requests for help, and in doing so have lost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Berry is at his best when he causes his new-found victims to put out their own money during these long and drawn out negotiations, thus scamming the scammers. If you visit the web site you can hear some of the phone conversations that add to the experience.

Buy this book, you'll be glad you did and I guarantee some very hearty laughs.

I'm a huge fan of Michael Berry's (aka Shiver Metimbers) scambait stories. He has such a unique mind and manages to get these thugs to do all kinds of ridiculous antics. It's truly incredible that the book requires almost no narrative writing and simply is a transcription of the e-mails passed back and forth between Mr. Berry and the scammers. My only real complain about it is that all the stories in here and more can be found on Mr. Berry's website. While I'm still a traditionalist and love having an actual physical copy of books, I was truly hoping that there might have been some exclusive content in the book that I had not yet already read on the author's website.

I've been a reader of 419eater.com for years (the website of the author).. This book contains several of the best scambaits he's done (a scambait is when you reverse scam a scammer), from having them get tattoos, commissioning them to craft wooden carvings, to flying all the way to Scotland, the ride never ends.. You'd think with the amount of scams they pull themselves they'd be able to spot them more easily, but they're so blinded by greed they don't see how idiotic the requests are they're getting from Mike, and they fulfill them happily with the promise of receiving several thousand dollars once the tasks are completed.

I highly recommend this book, I haven't gotten the chance to finish it yet because everyone in my family keeps passing it around. I can't believe it's out of print, so definitely pick up a copy before they're all gone.

I have received thousands of scam letters and never gave much thought to them until I read this book and found 419Eater. That is the website the author of this book founded. This book had me laughing out loud while educating me on how the 419 scam is perpetrated in it's various forms.

Go along with Mike as he takes you from start to finish in real attempts by 419 scammers to fleece him of his money.
They end up being the fleeced in this well written and hilarious book.

Actually I was disappointed. It was long and repetitive, and the author went to such lengths to outscam his scammers that I actually felt sorry for them.
I wanted a funny "bathroom book"; something quick, easy to read, and entertaining. I receive my share of scam emails and, initially, I thought the idea of scam-baiting humorous and justifiable. After reading the first few stories in "Greetings In Jesus Name!", my opinion changed. I failed to see the humor and found the scam-baiters to be driven by a dubious obsessiveness, overall disturbing. I guess I'd rather not know that the scammers and scam-baiters are really out there in the world. This book is NOT light hearted, funny reading. It's more like reading the journals of disturbed minds except after a while, you'll be bored.
