Get Yer Wack: A Liverpool Anthology is the first known published work of Brian Jacques. It was first published by Anvil Press in 1971 (ISBN B0007BLCU4), and was later re-released by Raven Books in December 1973 as Get Yer Wack: An Anthology of Liverpool Humour. The cover photographs, taken by Susan P. Place, depict Jacques on Liverpool's Albert Dock. The book is in paperback form, and features illustrations by Bill Tidy.

Jacques grew up in Kirkdale near to the Liverpool Docks. He was known by his middle name, Brian, because his father and a brother were also named James. His father loved literature and read his boy adventure stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Edgar Rice Burroughs, but also The Wind in the Willows with its cast of animals. Jacques was highly involved in the audio books of his work, even enlisting his sons and others to voice Redwall inhabitants. Jacques said that the characters in his stories are based on people he has encountered.

Brian Jacques was born in Liverpool in 1939. His first name was actually James, but because his father and one of his brothers were also called James, he was known as Brian. His favourites were books like King Solomon’s Mines by H. Rider Haggard, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson and The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. He left school aged fifteen, to seek adventure as a merchant sailor, and many of the colourful characters he met on his voyages ended up appearing in the Redwall books in mouse form.
Ever the performer, Jacques is well-known for applying his acting and entertainment background to his lively presentations to legions of young fans at schools across the United States and England.
