KET BENEFIT: This book takes an introductory look at major construction management topics alongside modern heavy construction and building construction, in order to provide readers with the knowledge base necessary to succeed in this highly competitive industry. The Sixth Edition includes new and expanded topics including use of the Internet in construction, pull scrapers, rental equipment, fire-retardant-treated wood and wood preservation, Superpave asphalt pavement, rapid repair of concrete pavements, hot and cold weather masonry construction, the cryogenic treatment of high-wear equipment components and more. For construction superintendents, project engineers, project managers, or anyone involved in the construction industry who wants an up-to-date-reference book.

So this book was require for my construction management class, and it is a pretty decent book, clear in explanation, but a bit dull to read. My absolute biggest problem with this book is that I found it had about 50 pages missing (pg 206-254). The pages weren't ripped out, I think it must have been a binding issue from the publisher. I found this out when trying to lookup information on concrete construction and found that there were only two pages of the chapter before it skips a chapter and a half and talks about masonry. So if you get this book WATCH OUT for binding mistakes.
This book has plenty of knowledge in it, however when it comes to identifying step by step math estimating processes it is very lacking. Trying to use this textbook during homework assignments have made me extremely frustrated. It will omit steps, thinking you know them. This textbook definitely needs a section that is strictly for formulas and conversions, not just some either, but all the different formulas that may be encountered within the textbook including the review questions. Not everyone has access or in their possesion the references that are mentioned either. Not to mention to gain all those references, one may go broke just purchasing all of them. Also, the book is very hard to read. It jumps into case studies mid paragraph and doesn't exactly answer a question you're trying to get answered. The index is the worst. Most traditional indexes give a great idea where alot of items or subjects in their books, this one doesn't. You can look up one word, and yes it may have it in a section of the book, but it won't tell you all the sections it may come up in the book.
I purchased this book for my required class and I have worshiped this book. This book gives lots of technical information and example calculations on a wide range of construction tasks. The book offers many examples that are on the PE exam. The book is an excellent source of reference for construction managers, contractors and engineers. I have an earlier edition of this book but I feel that this edition has enhanced illustrations and better step by step calculation examples. I will keep this book forever and if you purchase it I guarantee you will do the same.
I purchased this book October 2011 in preparation for the Professional Engineering Examination (Civil) April 2012. It was a great help in preparing for the exam. I used it during the exam to help solve a question or two. Highly recommended! I found this text to be an excellent resource for scheduling and production.
Good for the price. Trust the seller
Good great sweet awesome tight helpful kewl cul nice amazing okay a plus in the class it was great nice
Some of the math is wrong in the answers to the chapter questions. It's pretty outdated in some areas and the picture of a shovel swinging to a truck cab is unsafe...I ran a shovel for years so know this is a big nono. It seems pretty thorough on the content otherwise.
Thanks for helping me save an arm and a leg... :-P The book came in excellent condition, was very happy with the purchase.
