Model Making: A Basic Guide (Norton Professional Books for Architects & Designers). This book is (or was) pretty typical of the guides for constructing architectural models back in the day.

Model Making: A Basic Guide (Norton Professional Books for Architects & Designers). Model Making for Architects. You get information on two methods of model building - modifying kits meant for model railroad sets or building from scratch using foam board and craft materials. The kit building tends to be more realistic, whereas scratch building is more conceptual in nature (as most architectural models were historically).

The book comes up short as anything related to architectural model making. Model Making: A Basic Guide (Norton Professional Books for Architects & Designers)Paperback. I bought this and within the first five minutes it was apparent that it was a disappointing purchase. It fails to go beyond being a mere photo montage of the materials used in the process. It lacks specific how-to information and only offers knowledge that the beginning architecture student already knows - which is the basic list of materials needed to construct models.

I bought about architecture30 books that summer and read most of them. Though this one was not of any use to me right away I did just use it for some guidelines and tips for making my first model in architectural drafting school. Since it was my first model I had to purchase all the tools to work with the materials.

Book is a very basic introduction to model making techniques. I am an architecture student and only found one thing that ould help me in this book. I bought this book one year ago before going to college because I went on a architecture book reading frenzy. I bought about architecture30 books that summer and read most of them. Though this one was not of any use to me right away I did just use it for some guidelines and tips for making my first model in architectural drafting school. It has some great suggestions on what materials to buy and what tools you will need. Since it was my first model I had to purchase all the tools to work with the materials. So having this book helped me decided what materials I wanted to use for my model, what the benefits and cons were of those materials, and which tools would help me cut, glue, trim, etc. I would recommend this book to students or anyone trying to build models.

As for the shipping and the state of the book, the shipping was perfect, got to my house within a week or two which was no problem because I was just reading it for my own benefit. I bought the book used for $0.77!!!!!!!!! So the price was more than amazing. The quality of the book was very good, no highlights or anything and even if there were it was less than a dollar so I wouldn't complain. Overall everything was great.

I am a model builder by trade so a book like this seemed to be right up my alley. Although it is a good reference, it leaves some advance topics/ideas out. Instead of an instructional book, it seems to be more of an inspirational book for beginners or people interested in building models. If you are a beginner and are searching for an easy read to bring you into the world of model making, this is your book.

This is an elegant little book of line illustrations dealing with the art of architectural model building. It is not really a "how to" book. This book is ideal for people who already posses plenty of artistic talent. They will see basic concepts and be able to go from there.

If like me, you want to make models to help out with your kid's school projects, this book is not for you. For anybody looking for a step by step guide to making models, I would recommend a book by Games Workshop called, "How to Make Wargames Terrain", a beautifully illustrated guide book aimed towards teenagers

title was correct. Very basic information.

This book is certainly worth the 10 or 12 bucks you pay for it. If you are creative or talented, it is pretty useful. It lacks helpful hints, and has no real step by step stuff, just alot of vague stuff to get you started. Like I said, it is worht the 10 or 12 bucks though.

A very well illustrated introduction to the art of architectural modeling. Good discussion of materials and methods, as well a some introduction to the aesthetics of the business. Excellent for beginners.

wasn't what I was after but my fault for not reviewing harder. next time i'll spend more time in review
This how to book does not really explain much, or show much, no photos, just drawings. It sort of explains how to do stuff with different materials, but not really. I keep it on my shelf, and occassionally look at it while working on models, but it doesn't really come in handy. If you have never made a model, this may not explain enough to you, if you are really advanced, this may not explain enough.
