Hobsbawm tackles all of these arguments pretty well and in my view, e Hobsbawm provides a powerful rebuttal to the French Revolutionary revisionists, who in effect deny certain key historical assumptions about the Revolution that have been believed by keen observers ever since it happened. These revisionists conclude that the Revolution wasn't really a bourgeois revolution, didn't really fundamentally change that much, and cast it in the light of the various totalitarianisms of the 20th century.
