The village of Kilcoole, just south of Greystones, is perhaps the best known of its kind in Ireland – doubling as the fictional village of Glenroe in RTE’s popular soap opera in Kilcoole making it a very well known and special part of Ireland. An area of marshland runs along the coast from Kilcoole south to Wicklow town, called the Murragh. This area is home to many endangered species of plant and animal. The beach in Kilcoole is the summertime home of the little tern, one of the few places in Ireland where these birds nest. Within the village, is an area of flora known as the Rock which is a huge rock/hill that predates the Cambrian Period. The Murrough is a place of growing commercial use, so much so that a road by-passing the town directly to the commercial part of the area commenced construction in 2008 and was completed in summer of 2010

Take a drive through Sally Gap in the wicklow mountains One of the most beautiful scenery places to see in ireland You can also get a bus tour from dublin to see Sally Gap. Lovely drive across sally gap the scenery is amazing lots to See including the Guinness estate which includes lough Ta. would really recommend a drive across it either from laragh/glendalough or roundwood. Beautiful area for walking and for photography and when you have finished taking photographs drop in to the magnificent golf club for a cuppa and a chat.

It has an interesting folklore of its own. Saint Patrick and some followers are said to have tried to land on Travailahawk beach, to the south of the harbour. Hostile locals attacked them, causing one of Patrick's party to lose his front teeth.
