The Sagebrush Bohemian: Mark Twain's Wild Years. The Sagebrush Bohemian - Nigey Lennon. I first became aware of Mark Twain, and, hazily, of his intrinsic Westernness, when I was living in London in 1973. My mother, a war bride, had grown up in England, but I was born in California and spent my childhood there and in Arizona, and for me the European experience was like being on Mars. I found the weather uncongenial, the cultural advantages overrated, and the lack of reliable heating and modern sanitary facilities dismal.

THE SAGEBRUSH BOHEMIAN Mark Twain In California by Nigey Lennon - 1993 1st Print. THE SUBTITLE OF THIS INTRIGUING BOOK ISThe Hidden Story of his (Mark Twain's) Final Years. CONDITION: The book itself is in VERY GOOD condition, and could be mistaken for having been published only recently, as the condition is that nice. The pages are clean and the spine is solid. The images depicted are that of the actual book itself. Those final years were the last decade of the Great Man's life - from 1900 to 1910. Until recently, not a whole lot was known about that period after the death of Twain's wife of 34 years.
THE SAGEBRUSH BOHEMIAN Mark Twain in California. 203 pp. New York: Paragon House. He last saw California in 1870, leaving it to return East following the success of his second book, "The Innocents Abroad," based on a series of articles he had written about an excursion through Europe to the Holy Land. As Ms. Lennon points out, biographers have slighted Mark Twain's Western period: Justin Kaplan's "Mr. Clemens and Mark Twain" begins with the humorist's departure for Europe and the Holy Land.
