This book was hastily written and the pictures selected seemingly at random. I have viewed many books covering this period and all had better images and far better commentary and captioning. The author evidently has the history education of an 8 year old child. For example he has a section in the book titled "The Philippine Insurrection" with no awareness that the US government sent in the US Army to maintain control of this country as a colony for US businessmen to exploit or how the US Army was involved in many massacres at this time with mass burial sites (precursor to our adventures in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia). He has pictures of black servicemen at induction centers with no mention that the military was segregated until after World War II and that blacks were used as servants for the white enlisted men and officers. There is a picture captioned "Civilians gaze upon the bodies of 800 Russians, Poles, Czechs, Namering, Germany" with no mention made that General Dwight Eisenhower orders his soldiers to take people from the towns near the many death camps to see what had been done so they could not deny later that the atrocities by the German military never took place. This lack of historical and social narrative and the poor selection of pictures makes this book a waste of good trees.
