Anyway, I have 100 raw food and diet books and every time this is the one I pull off the shelves for my directives and recipes. This was the first raw food book that I read 7 years ago. I am happy that it was my very first book because it enlightened me on several facts that many people don't think about, where you can eat a uncooked corn on the cob. I grew up eating cooked corn, so that concept right there was a bit surprising to me but that is just one example of things that you probably didn't know and things such as food combining etc.

First I read The Raw Food Detox Diet, followed by Raw Food Life Force Energy. Her writing style is very simple, conversational and a similar style expected from any diet or nutrition books. I found this book amazing. I'm not going to lie, it's a lot more work to eat raw (or even mostly raw) than anything else I've tried but the rewards were more than worth it.

I gained 70lbs with my first child (I know, I know... =P) and it took me nearly a year to loose 50 of those 70lbs.(unfortunately nursing wasn't the miracle weight loss cure I was led to believe!)

With my second child, I gained 50lbs. 6 weeks after he was born I decided to follow the recommendations of Natalia's book and after 6 weeks, I had lost 35 of the 50lbs I had gained. After the 6 weeks I still had 15 pounds to loose to get back to pre-pregnancy (not pre-pre pregnancy) weight but I decided to take a break from the regimine.

The good news is that even though I stopped the diet and began eating 'normally' again, I didn't gain any weight back. It was like my body was clean and efficient enough to deal with a regular diet that eating typical foods did not translate into gaining the weight back as it has with any other diet I'd ever tried. The weight stayed off and then slowly I lost the rest of the extra weight.

I have revisited the diet anytime I have felt like I need to feel better or I've indulged in one too many treats and need to drop a few pounds. It's actually pretty amazing I think how the body responds to fresh, healthy vegetables - after the first week you have more energy than you've had in ages and feel great.

I will warn you however, that during the first week, all the juicing (don't skip this part) will induce a detox that can make you feel horrible. For me, the first week is hell - my energy is zapped and I just feel gross. But once my body has flushed all the gunk out, I feel amazing! - and chastise myself for not eating this way all the time... So if you feel bad, that's the good news - your body is taking out the garbage (did you really think you could eat all that crap without consequence?!? ;)...) and IF you stick with it, you will get to the other side and feel great. But do yourself a favor and stick with it until you do feel better or you'll have done most of the heavy lifting without getting to the reward. No fun in that... (nor any weight loss I would guess).

Anyway, I have 100 raw food and diet books and every time this is the one I pull off the shelves for my directives and recipes. Highly recommended.

This was the first raw food book that I read 7 years ago. I am happy that it was my very first book because it enlightened me on several facts that many people don't think about, where you can eat a uncooked corn on the cob. I grew up eating cooked corn, so that concept right there was a bit surprising to me but that is just one example of things that you probably didn't know and things such as food combining etc.
I also find it to be a very realistic book, because I highly doubt that majority of people who think they become a 100% raw food vegan overnight and stick to it without fail is living in a fantasy world. For those few who actually haven't ever cheated and eaten something cooked or not 'healthy', I applaud you but now after re-reading her book, I really appreciate her honesty regarding the different levels one may be at. Like I said, in a perfect world I would be 100% raw but realistically speaking, we do not so don't beat yourself up if you fall off the bandwagon. My only complaint is her recommendation of maple syrup, and big amounts of olive oil where I do not think its necessary to use that much in the recipes. Personally I would have liked for her to recommend stevia as a healthy substitute, but then again this book was written many years ago. I highly recommend that you add this book to your library.

I'm a guy and have a I have a chronic stomach illness (IBS).

Before starting this book, I was trying to balance my doctor's and acupuncturist's advice, with a yo-yo diet of junk food (ice cream sandwiches are my kryptonite) to healthy and no real direction.

Then my girlfriend recommended this book. The short story is that I have lost 26 pounds and many of my symptoms have gone away (even though I still can't have balsamic vinegar or too much ginger).

The book is easy to read and offers a 14 day plan for all levels of raw food. However, you don't HAVE TO follow the meal plan if you don't want to - it's about making the right choices. The tone is empathetic to how hard this diet can be and does everything to ease you in gradually.

The recipes are delicious and aren't there as your limitations, but to teach you how to cook raw. The Carrot/sweet potato bisque soup is one of my favorites and after a week of eating it for lunch some odd skin problems I had went away.

The downside is that it's really geared towards women. If you're guy, just stick through it. Also, yes, she doesn't advocate eating meat. However, I have balanced my love of meat into my diet and reduced my portions of protein and upped my veggies with proper combining and healthy ingredients.

Anyway, I can't say enough good things about the book and have been succesfully using the diet for 6 months with no wear and tear to my psyche.

I think this book is a great starting point for someone wanting to be healthier and/or learn about living a raw lifestyle. Please note, if you already eat raw or predominately raw, this is NOT the book for you.

Some folks have been very critical of this book in regards to it not being a truly raw book. If you read a quick synopsis of the book, that should have been obvious right away. This book is for beginners. It's all about transitioning and learning the benefits of eating raw, not mixing certain foods, detoxing your body and your life etc.

This book was a great place to begin my journey into eating a healthier diet, incorporating more veggies and fresh foods and overall living a healthier life. I have lost weight without committing fully to a raw lifestyle, and I also feel amazing. My sister was so inspired by my progress, she is reading the book now, too. I'm very thankful to my friend whom suggested I read this book. It has changed my life.
