Chisanbop or chisenbop is an abacus-like finger counting method used to perform basic mathematical operations. According to The Complete Book of Chisanbop by Hang Young Pai, chisanbop was created in the 1940s in Korea by Sung Jin Pai and revised by his son Hang Young Pai. He then brought the system to the United States c. 1977. With this method it is possible to display all numbers from 0 to 99 with two hands.

Years ago Isaw this done on television with some children & I was amazed. So I bought the book & used it. Years later when I became a teacher I hunted online & found it again (wasn't easy to find). I used it with my class. The kids loved it because to them it's a game. First they learn how to read the numbers by what fingers are pressed down. Then they learn how to do calculations. They look at what fingers are pressed down & that is their answer. Fast & accurate. You have to stick with it though & teach it properly but if you do it's great. Even kids who had math difficulty mastered it. I still use it for my own calculations!!

Stuff gets in the way! Never have time to practice. What I have learned works! Teach your children this kind of math and they will probably become top science engineers! What an advantage you will give them! Instant math solutions!
Want a smarter kid, buy this for them!

Wish I would have found this earlier in my life but like the principles so far- Americans are falling behind in math for many reasons. This book discusses finger counting, techniques used in Asian countries for many centuries. It takes you step by step thru them and shows a practical way to finger count to higher numbers- really awesome. Wish I would have learned this as a kid but it is never too late.

I am terrible at mental math so I heard great thing about it but not practical. It's like learning klingon. you might as well just put effort into learning it the traditional way
Coiron
Great outline of the system. Lost me when used for multiplication and division. Memorizing is much easier, but may help students with concept of multiplication and division

Everybody shoud lern this! Skoolz are foolz for not teaching this starting in kindergarden.
