Then I find this book, Why Johnny Can't Read, and wow! I was only skirting around the answer. This explains that the word method that kids learn now is giving them dyslexia and it tells you how. Rudolf Flesch talks about every problem my daughter has with reading and explains WHY she has these problems and it makes total sense! I am shocked that the book with all the answers is 60 years old! It's sad that the answers have been around this long and still, most people don't know.

This is International Phonetic Alphabet. It is, of course, a good way to find the pronunciation. But if you use it for English and you wanted to write a name which had sounds not present in English how would the reader read it? Also, if I spoke with a different accent, which set of pronunciations should I write in? Indian or RP. IPA is used by some dictionaries and is certainly helpful.
