feels a little outdated compared to all the flashy new fun books books around. BUT: Cooking organic and local on a budget and from what is in the fridge using up the food to the last scrap is just what is needed for family cooking. The recipies are good and can easily become staples. Recommended.

This book is well thought out, beautiful enticing pictures, clear and easy recipes. I especially liked the wisdom shared by the chefs.

Good tips for reducing food waste, and the bedrock recipes may help you with meal planning, but most of the recipes are far from economical. Very meat heavy although cheaper cuts and ways to use it all are showcased. It is all the other bits in the recipes that will kill your budget- the recipes average about 10 ingredients each, many of which aren't pantry staples and a fair few you won't find outside of a well stocked urban market. Basically, the bedrock recipes don't conserve ingredients beyond the meat. Overall, not useful for a busy parent trying to feed the family.

I have found that this book is fantastic in providing one ideas for drop down recipies. If followed and menu planning is put in place for the week / month one can eat far better, save time in the kitchen and also save money - it really is good. I have given this book to my young people and also friend to help with the monthly budget and also cooking. The recipies are great and enough help is given to those who are not used to cooking from scratch. Enjoy and take on board the planning ahead, and envolving the household in cooking, it really helps with acceptance of the recipies and keeping the budget under control.
