This book is at once delightful and disappointing because it was written primarily from the viewpoint of a race car aficionado. For example, almost half of the section on engines belabors the operation of the two stroke motor for the benefit of the layman, without too many specifics on the current state of the art. It is confusing at times, inferring that four stroke engines are heavier because of the valvetrain, without explaining that two stroke engines don't use valves. Every piece of the GP motorcycle is explained as to how & why it's necessary. Very interesting & a must-have for a fan.

This book contains the only cut-away illustration of the famous Moto Guzzi V8 that I've ever seen. I was also impressed with the amout of historic photos used to show the progress and path of GP motocycle development. The only area I felt the book was lacking was current development. Very little current technology, other than Honda's big-bang engine were mentioned. All in all though, the book is well worth the reading.

Nice book, text is accurate and well written, lots of pictures. Gives a good historical perspective. More for an enthusiast than a casual fan.
