I really wanted to like this. I'm not sure what I can say. This novel is rife with grammatical errors, wrong verb tenses (and continuous switching of tenses even within one sentence), misplaced words (the word is spelled right but it's not the right word) and it continuously switches point of view. The quality of the writing is so poor that I found myself do distracted I could barely focus on the story, instead I wanted to get out a red pen and start correcting (thankfully I spared my Kindle that fate).

I think the author had a good idea, maybe she even had several good ideas, but she was trying to do too much in one story. Couple that with the grammar errors and the fact that the author uses words she doesn't understand, unfortunately, makes this one not worth the money. I'm actually confused as to how this got published as the quality of writing is so low. What happened to things like proofreaders and editors? How did this get published when it's filled with so many mistakes that any high school English teacher would simply hand it back uncorrected and ask that it be rewritten?

"When Kei made it home." "When the final ring of the lunch bell rang..." "He practically had to hide the disgust before it written itself on his face." These are a few examples of sentence fragments, poor sentence structure, etc.

It takes a very long time to get to any yaoi type of story. The characters, especially the protagonist, don't behave in any logical manner (he isn't the least bit upset at being involved in murder where several people are burned alive yet we're supposed to believe that he is pure and naive and sweet). I truly think that the author has some good ideas but the execution was so poor and the story such a jumble that those ideas are simply lost and I can't recommend the book even to the most die-hard of yaoi fans.

While I applaud the authors intention to write, I found the characters one dimensional and the over all writing grammer and story tellign to be childish. It reads as tho a 13 year old might have written it. BADLY, to me, I love yaoi so I thought I would give it a try, the artwork on the cover looks great, but I could barely make it thru the first chapter and this is the ONLY yaoi I have never been able to finish, despite trying multiple times. This was truly a cliched` immature story line with card board cut out personalities. If you are an adult over 20 I would advise you to save you cash.

While this 1st book wasn't my favorite, the series does get better and you really have to read this one first to get an understanding of the characters. It wasn't a bad book but it was childish at times and a bit unbelievable. The harsh realities of the different friends' lives makes this series different from other M/M stories. It draws you in emotionally and if you would at least rate this book 3 stars, I would recommend you keep on with the series because it gets better.

When a certain Old Testament writer dubbed homosexuality an abomination before God, he had probably just finished reading this book. All it has going for it, for which even one star is an act of supreme generosity, is the set-up. The author has no sense of story and to say the causal relationships between character and incident are flimsy would be like referring to the Holocaust as an unfortunate blemish on European history. True, it is only 99¢, but I once purchased three handkerchiefs for that, two years ago, and they still serve me faithfully.

Here're some examples of sentences fairly typical of the writer: "He was at least close to seven-feet tall," "His eyes were fixated on the figure of Kane," ". . . taking off their shirts revealing their nipples and taunt forming." This screams out for more than just editing and proofreading; this screams out for night classes in English, five times a week, for at least (close to) a year. It reads as if the writer, during the first--and possibly only--draft, misspelled words through ignorance of the English language, then used the spell check and accepted all changes blindly, knowing her level of linguistic competence didn't allow her to argue with Word.

This is a great genre of fiction and deserves much better than this. It certainly deserves more than the gratuitous splatterpunk-esque elements that arbitrarily infiltrate the narrative, adding nothing, while consigning the already street-level emotional plane of the work to the gutter. I didn't finish the book because, quite simply, the author demonstrates, early enough, that she doesn't have the structural or verbal talent to redeem her characters--eventually--from the arbitrary depths of nastiness in which she immerses them from the get-go. I'm all for great journeys from the pits of hell to celestial beauty. But, honey, Dante has left this burning building. Along with three of the main characters who do just that, early on, though, unlike Dante, they shouldn't have bothered.

This novel is true to its promise. it is a Yaoi novel and an extraordinary one at that. I wish there were more Yaoi novels like it.

Fast paced, intriquing, with a compelling pair of antagonistic lovers, colorful heartfelt characters, whose skin is easy to inhabit, I could not stop reading until it released me.... three hours after picking it up.

The story takes you in, runs you through a fascinating series of mini adventures, emotional angst and delicious sex scenes, much like the best rollercoaster ride and like the best rides when it spits you out, you gasp in exhilaration, feel the rush and scream "More!"
