Sacred Heart Orphanage. He had, after all, worked a case in which a man had murdered sixteen people over the course of a decade and chopped their bodies up into itty-bitty pieces and left them around Central Park as pigeon food. They probably would never have caught him, if it hadn’t been for an overzealous seagull pooping an entire index finger into the center of a flash mob. But somehow, this case was worse-the worst, maybe.

It incorporates the essential sacred texts of Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Zoroastrianism, Jainism, and Islam. All of the books are in the public domain in the United States, and most or all are in the public domain in many other countries.

THE book on devotion to the Sacred Heart! Commissioned by Our Lord Himself through St. Margaret Mary . Margaret Mary and received. It may take a little time to get used to the older English words and phrasing, but it is well worth the effort. There are so many lights given about Our Lord's Most Sacred Heart and this beautiful tome, that it is easy to understand why Saint Padre Pio's Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart precipitated so many miraculous healings of mind body and spirit.

Carol O'Connell succeeds triumphantly, once again, in creating an intriguing crime scenario and also an engaging group of characters, all damaged in their own different ways, who pursue their destinies in a city that is both darkly dangerous and resilient to disaster. After bringing in a unanimous and very dubious acquittal in a murder case, only three of the original jurors remain alive. And someone, known only as the 'Reaper' because of the signature of a bloody scythe left at the crime scenes, is clearly determined to make a clean sweep of the terrified survivors.

The mostly true graphic memoir, about a little girl, who along with her four brothers are abandoned by their mother. A tragicomic dealing with sex, violence, hope and happiness. A sometimes funny, sometimes sad but always told with brutal honesty. Seven year old Katy Sue just wants a family to love her, but in her search for love she finds something even more valuable. SACRED HEART is a graphically rendered account of growing up in rural Pennsylvania in the 1960s and 70s in a orphanage run by catholic nuns. Kathy O'Connell's messy, dark, distinctive illustration style with its wry observations and amusing details is fun to read and examine, and draws you into her story quickly. This is a story that's loud, frank, dirty and not easy to put down.

This story immediately drew my attention because I had attended Catholic schools until the age of 13. The schools I attended were very strict and acting out was not tolerated. I cannot imagine being abandoned by your mother and dropped off at an orphanage with strangers at the age of 7.

It must have been so scary for Katy Sue and her brothers.
She grew up there with so many obstacles and terrible situations to overcome. She faced them all with courage and strength. When she was adopted, Katy Sue tried so hard to fit in and please her foster parents. Unfortunately, she was let down again and sent back to the orphanage. She dealt with adversity on her own and in her own way, making her a stronger person and ultimately bringing happiness to her life.

At times, I had to put the book down as I was so saddened to read how often Katy Sue was passed by for adoption. The book is emotionally charged and makes you appreciate the simplest things in life that you take for granted.

I recommend this riveting book to anyone that wants to get outside their comfort zone and understand how different childhood can be in a challenging situation. You will be uplifted by a feel good ending.

This orphanage is (was) in my town so I was very interested in reading the book. The book was okay but I was hoping that there would be more pictures from inside the orphanage and more stories about what it was like to live there.

I too lived at the same Orphanage during the time the author did...her 2nd chapter titled 'And then they cut my hair' is one of the worst memories I had of this horrible place...and brought me even closer to the story...made it very personal for me. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to know what life in an orphanage was really like...not the kind of place most people think they are. The German nuns really were awful and everything written is based on true events. Happy to know the author is as creative and successful as she is considering her childhood...she has much to be proud of and overcame so much.

This book was incedible, it has opened my eyes to how awful children can be treated. No child deserves to be treated the way Katy Sue and her brothers were. The abuse effected their entire lives....
The graphics made the book seem just as real as the words. The artist has a view of life different than every one else. I would like to thank her for using her talent as an artist and as a writer for opening my eyes and my heart even more that they already are. Thank you for sharing your story...I recommend this book to any one who has children.

Loved the graphic novel set up of this very sad tale. Got this book to read another point of view of where my own father grew up.

This book is amazing! The graphic design is spectacular. The characters jump off the page. The story is moving. Your emotions are peeked with each chapter. And your heart is moved with each event in Katy Sue's life. The ending is proof that it is within each of us to find our own happiness no matter what has been thrown in our path. I will recommed this book to all my friends.

This is a graphic novel written and drawn in a grim but humorous format. At times images and scenarios may be vile, disturbing, and downright distasteful. This is not a typical childhood you expect to come across with your own eyes! However, throughout the dark chaotic slaughter a delicate side emerges. Such dreadful events are usually mocked and such humor spills out. Humor so powerful at times that you forget you are even reading about a tortured girls past. In addition, the novel's spontaneous plot, looney characters, and luscious details will further captivate your interest.

It may be difficult to relate to the author's past troubles. The author was willing to expel brutally honest events to the viewers. There is truly much strength in her! She simply turns her back to the harsh past and laughs.
Do you or anyone remember Kenneth Vercusky or any of the Vercusky boys. We never knew what happened to little Kenny.
