The folio belongs to an illustrated copy of the Divan of Anvari commissioned by the Mughal emperor Akbar (r. 1556-1605) in 1588 and in Lahore. The poet Anvari (1126-1189) is considered one of the greatest figures in Persian literature. His panegyric in honor of the Seljuq sultan, Ahmad Sanjar (r. 1118-1157) earned him royal favor and the patronage of two of Sanjar’s successors. Anvari’s poems were collected in a Divan, which contains eulogies, satire, panegyrics, and other forms of poetry and prose

Art was very important to him. Akbar thought continually about form and content, appearance and reality.

Its subject is the Emperor Jalal ad-Din Akbar and his effect on Mughal culture. Art was very important to him.

This book treats the flowering of Mughal Art and the creation of a Mughal artistic community in the city of Fatehpur-Sikri,City Of Victory, during the Emperor Akbar the Great residence there (1571 until 1585). The various chapters cover material on miniature painting, textiles, manuscripts, woodwork and metal-ware, all selected with a view to showing Akbar's adherence to traditional Islamic concepts of Kingship and his concerns with the dichotomy between realms of the physical world and the spiritual world. At the back of the book are detailed comments on the 81 glossy color plates and a chronology of important historical events of Akbar's lifetime and reign.
