If you are a Bandstand fan then this book is a must. It's a very easy and fun read. Dick Clark does not hide any "events" in his life but the details are sugar coated or eliminated. At the time the book was written there was no "other information" about Clark and this was a continuance of the benevolent character he played on TV - with a little spice thrown in there for good measure. He was definitely a Czar in the music industry! But he down-played it and nobody suspected anything more that what they saw on TV.

There is another book out on Bandstand that is interesting to compare to this book to see what REALLY went on. You have to keep an open mind about Dick Clark. He was not as benevolent as people thought he was. Having TV to present him and the image he projected, I was surprised that he smoked and drank! He was portrayed as virginal, innocent, harmless, boy-next door. Back in the day when you came home from school and turned on the TV he was like your big brother.

Very, very interesting and funny about situations leading up to and during his Bandstand years. These are tales that only Dick Clark would know about and you get some insight to behind the scenes events. Even though the book is decades old, it's still worth reading. If you lived during that time period or you are just nostalgic or curious about it. Grab a copy! You'll have fun.

Excellent retrospective of how Dick Clark changed to face of Rock and Roll by bringing American Bandsatnd to the USA from here in Philadelphia.

This was a difficult book to find. I did not even see it at places like used book stores or antique stores. I simply Googled it, and Amazon came up in the search. My first assumption was that Amazon only dealt with new publications. Dick Clark did not have many new publications from the late 1990s until his passing. This book was probably not updated later, since it primarily covered Clark's early life and career up to the payola hearings. This was a great find, and I thank Amazon for this!

This isn't THE history of Rock 'n' Roll (you have to look elsewhere for that), but it IS a history of part of that. Worth reading.

A true "Blast From The Past" ! The memories, personal stories, and, history of one of America's true R&R pioneers. The man whose "American Bandstand" TV Show brought R&R into homes all-over the country, and made instant-stars of singers like Frankie Avalon, Bobby Darin, Fabian, Connie Francis, Bobby Rydell, and many, many others.

His legends lives on in the various forms of entertainment he helped create decades ago, and this fantastic volume chronicals how it all started...and how we got "from-there-to-here" !

The book itself, no matter when it was written, is a great piece of Radio/Rock & Roll personal history from the man who was there in those early days and, through his early, ground-breaking, "American Bandstand" TV Show, pioneered in bring Rock & Roll to the masses via the TV Screen...just as Alan Freed had contributed earlier through the airwaves of Radio.

The book follows Clark's life and career, mostly-chronologically, and his candor in sharing personal thoughts, stories, triumphs & tragedies, shows how his seemingly "meteoric" rise to fame once "Bandstand" became a hit on TV, was actually a trip that had a good foundation from the start.

The myths of Clark being the All-American "Boy Next Door" are changed by the fact that he was "human" ! He smoked, drank, had marital problems, business problems, and had day-to-day problems just like the rest of us, but his admissions to those things in his life actually give us a more in-depth look...and the knowledge that he had the courage to add it to this volume is good in itself.

ALL-IN-ALL, if you want to hold book in your hands that reflects a true piece of "Rock & Roll History", by one of the men who helped create a version of the genre' that continues, in its current form, till today, you will definitely love this book ! Dick Clark's "Rock, Roll & Remember" should find a place somewhere in your Library, and you can find your copy here on Amazon.

Everytime I touch, hold, and, read, mine I remember the man who handed it to me...one of my early R&R Heroes: Dick Clark. I met him here in St. Louis in November,1976, when he was on tour promoting the book...he signed my copy: "To Jonnie, Here's to those good ol' days !! Dick Clark".

I was very happy with the book Rock, Roll, and Remember by Dick Clark. This has many qualities that made this book as good as it was. I am not that big of a fan of autobiographies but I found that this was much better then most of the autobiographies that I have read earlier. This book gives and in depth look at how Dick Clark got his start. It also give some in depth information on his down falls, describing the ''Payola'' scandle and the Congressional inveestigation. The only problem that I had with this book was that the years jumper around to much. On Chapter nine you will be reading about the late fifties while on chapeter ten you will be reading about the earliy fifties. This did not bother me that much and I am very glad and impressed with this book and I personally recommend this book to anyone one of any age. Rock and Roll lives on.
