These same prophecy writers almost never tell their readers that there is a long history of failed predictions based on these 2 chapters. Finally there's a book that explains the meaning of these two seemingly mysterious chapters by using the BIBLE instead of today's newspaper headlines! Here are some of the questions answered in Why the End of the World is NOT in Your Future: Is Russia mentioned in the Bible? Does Ezekiel mention war planes, ballistic missiles, and nuclear bombers? Are Gog and Magog after oil or cattle? Does 2 Peter 3 predict a nuclear holocaust? What does Rosh really mean? When was Ezekiel 38 and 39 fulfilled? This book will rock your prophetic world with the countless hours of research and original material. It will also make you a better student of God's Word.

This book may not be the best first book to read on the subject of Preterism. If you have a basic introductory understanding of Preterism you'll be able to follow this much better than if you didn't. To boil it down, the point of this book is simple. The Preterist view requires less speculation than the Futurist view. That's it. Both views require some speculation... in other words it's a matter of faith no matter which side of this fence you're on. But I am convinced that the side Gary Demar is on the side that follows logical deduction the most consistently. He both makes a case that the Preterist view is the most logical and the least illogical.

Makes you think rather than committing "intellectual suicide" by following the popular norm on prophecy. Well done--prepared well. Good and easy read.

Very well put together Gary DeMar addresses some key problems with dispensationalism. I have to agree with Gary terms such as: shortly, at hand, near, this generation must mean the same thing in Jesus day or today.

A must read to bring sanity to the Dispensation teaching. The Christ has come, the Parousia means the presence is here.

Mr. DeMar:

Your book attempts to resuscitate a dead issue (Russia/Rosh and Iran/ancient Persia) that was put to rest in several books on eschatology since 2001.

Beyond that, there are several flaws in your interpretation of Ezekiel 38 & 39. For example: You believe this battle -- the most detailed of all battles in the Bible -- occurred 2500 years ago. However, (1) there has not yet been a mass burial of the hundreds of thousands of dead bodies from the invading army. The gathering and burials alone will require 7-months and will fill the entire designated Valley of Hamon-Gog; (2) Nor has there been a 7-year period of burning the countless weapons left behind by the defeated army; and (3) Ezekiel 38 clearly states that this battle is an end-times event; "...in the latter years you will come into the land that is restored from the sword." Ez. 38:8 (NKJV, NASB); "It will be in the latter days ..." (Ez. 38:16 NKJV); "It shall come about in the last days ..." (Ez. 38:16 NASB). Certainly not 2,500 years ago as you suggest.

Recommended reading: Northern Storm Rising - Author Ron Rhodes summarizes the resolved debate concerning Rosh/Russia on pages 99-113 -- citing overwhelming evidence by many reputable Biblical scholars. This book, and several others I can name, will clear up other points where you appear to be confused.

Dear Mr. DeMar,

My wife and I have been studying your fascinating book, Why The End of The World Is Not In Your Future. We marvel at the careful scholarship you demonstrate as you seek to prove your thesis that Ezekiel's Gog and Magog is the same as Esther's battle against the forces of Haman. It is a very credible and compelling thesis in our estimation.

We noted some minor typos and also have some comments we would like to pass on to you for your edification and in case this book goes through future editions. We hope that the ideas in this book will come to the attention of large numbers of Christians, as they promise to help reorient and redirect the priorities of American Christendom in a significant way were they to be widely accepted.

It also seems that this is the last piece of the Preterist puzzle, by explaining that even the mysterious Gog and Magog conflict already was fulfilled long ago in the days of the Old Testament writers themselves. It also helps to elevate the Book of Esther in importance, as many Christians question why it is even included in Sacred Scripture at all! Your book makes clear that Esther chronicles truly a remarkable salvation of the Jewish Nation, a salvation that permitted the eventual birth of the Savior Jesus Christ Himself, Glory be to God!

Sincerely,
Michael and Patricia Singvangelist

Comments and Corrections to Gary DeMar's book, Why The End of The World Is Not In Your Future

(The second version is my correction)

Here you write:

In Numbers 24:20 we read, "Amalek was the first of the nations, but his end shall be destruction." The phrase "first of the nations" takes us back to the early chapters of Genesis where we find "Gomer," "Magog," "Tubal," and "Meshech," and their father Japheth (Gen. 10:2), the main antagonist nations that figure prominently in Ezekiel 38 and 39.

The Jewish rabbis teach that Amalek is called "first of the nations" because he was the first to attack the Israelites after they were liberated from Egypt under Moses' leadership. Amalek disregarded the palpable miracles that accompanied the Exodus and therefore is considered particularly heinous. His designation as "first" is akin to being the first in brazenness or chutzpah!

Exo 17:8 Then came935 Amalek,6002 and fought3898 with5973 Israel3478 in Rephidim.7508

Exo 17:13 And Joshua3091 discomfited2522 (853) Amalek6002 and his people5971 with the edge6310 of the sword.2719

Exo 17:15 And Moses4872 built1129 an altar,4196 and called7121 the name8034 of it Jehovah-nissi:3071
Exo 17:16 For he said,559 Because3588 the LORD3050 hath sworn3027, 5921, 3676 that the LORD3068 will have war4421 with Amalek6002 from generation4480, 1755 to generation.1755

Also Amalek's birth is recorded in Genesis 36:12:

Gen 36:12 And Timna8555 was1961 concubine6370 to Eliphaz464 Esau's6215 son;1121 and she bore3205 to Eliphaz464 (853) Amalek:6002 these428 were the sons1121 of Adah5711 Esau's6215 wife.802

Again the rabbis teach an interesting thing, namely that Timna, Amalek's mother and Eliphaz's wife, was also Eliphaz's own daughter from the Queen of Seir, so Amalek turns out to be doubly illegitimate. There is a fascinating Midrash that Eliphaz consorted with the Queen of Seir and sired Timna. Later, Timna sought to marry into Jacob's family, but knowing her dubious pedigree he rebuffed her. She then married her own father, Eliphaz, saying, "If I cannot join Abraham's seed through Jacob then I shall do so through Esau!" Before her death, Timna made her first born son, Amalek, swear to avenge her humiliation from Jacob by attacking all future descendants of Jacob!

7. p.57

Here you note the similarity between Ezekiel's Hebrew word Hamon for hordes to Haman in the Book of Esther. You might be interested to know that the numerical value of the following two Hebrew expressions is identical:

a. Gay Hamon Gog [Valley of the Hordes of Gog] b. Haman Ha'agaggi [Haman the Agaggite]
This is an excellent study of the Gog and Magog prophecies of Ezekiel. The author demonstrates beyond possibility of rejection that Ezekiel 38-39 are predicting the events of the book of Esther. Anyone who takes the Bible seriously and objectively wishes to understand what God is saying will want to have this book.
