The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) is a botanical garden located at Bronx Park, in the Bronx, New York City. The 250-acre (100 ha) site contains a landscape with over one million living plants; the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a greenhouse containing several habitats; and the LuEsther T. Accompanied by Mayor Bloomberg yesterday in an early morning ribbon cutting, New York City-based practice Weiss/Manfredi celebrated the grand opening of the new Brooklyn Botanic Garden Visitor Center. Embedded into an existing hillside at the Garden’s northeast corner, the sinuous glass building appears as a seamless extension to the existing topography as it leads into the 52-acre garden. The 20,000-square-foot Visitor Center was conceived as a new threshold between the city and Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBC) that transitions from an architectural presence at the street to a structured landscape within the Garden.
The centrepiece of the New York Botanical Garden is the exquisite Haupt Conservatory, a Victorian style glasshouse featuring several permanent exhibitions and two galleries dedicated to seasonal flower shows, including the world famous Orchid Show held annually in March and April.
