Kathryn Casey has written a superb narrative about the shocking Austin, Texas murder of Texas millionaire Steve Beard. A talented writer, Ms. Casey vividly, yet economically, describes the twisted events in this case. And this book, in my opinion, stands out as one of the best of its type, reminiscent of the late writer, Ann Rule.

The True Crime genre is popular because the average person wants to try and understand what it is inside an individual that could drive them to callously end another's life. In Celeste Beard's case, perhaps these books, which she obsessively read herself, served more as "how-to" manuals. She apparently thought that the easiest way to rid herself of an inconvenient husband was to find someone to do it for her. And Beard, though not a stunning beauty, never seemed to lack "assistants" ready to do her bidding. In Tracy Tarlton, Beard thought she found someone who would kill for her, and she immediately began grooming her as her own personal assassin. After all, Ms. Tarlton had a history of mental illness and before long found herself in love and willing to do anything for the woman who would eventually betray her.

"She Wanted It All" moves along at a swift pace and doesn't bog itself down in the smaller details as some police procedurals do. Ms. Casey has a gift for making the reader see the motives behind, and understand the personalities of, the people she writes about. After finishing it, I feel almost a sense of mourning for Steve Beard, a good man who fell for the dubious charms of a heartless psychopath. Five Stars. Great read!

This book is deserving of a 5 Star rating because it kept my interest until the end. I did not see any photos about the case in this copy of the book; they were not necessary. The author, Kathryn Casey, did extremely well in the telling of the story itself. There was never a time when I was confused about the time line. What a very clear and concise writing and what a professional.

I look forward to reading more books by this author in the future. Also, I will be recommending this book to family and friends.

This was a page turner. I read a lot of non fiction and true crime books and this one was really good. I've never read a book that I hated the main character as much as this one. What an evil and selfish person Celeste Beard was/is. It was just amazing how she blew through Steve Beard's money. I feel guilty for buying so many kindle books at .99 cents.
I feel really bad about Celeste's twin daughters who now have no father and especially not a mother. Celeste Beard is insane and from any pictures I saw she wasn't really good looking at all. I didn't get it.
There were some mistakes in the book such as when the author said that Steve was setting up the TV station. I was an Austinite until I got sick and tired of the traffic and she said that Beard got his picture taken with Dan Blocker. The movie and television star Dan Blocker died in 1972. Also, the constant talk about how rich these people were was a little off. Celeste would have been broke in another year, or less with the way she blew through money. With big spenders, 10 mil isn't a lot of money. Steve Beard was moderately wealthy.
Still, it was quite the book and interesting story. It's a great read and I would recommend it.

This was an excellent read from beginning to end. As an older guy in relationship with a younger woman this book has special meaning. Friends often point out the sugar daddy effect to me, sometimes jokingly or as friendly banter but not always. But there’s lots of truth in it. Celeste Beard of course was a master in deception and it does not really surprise me that Steve never caught on to it right till the bitter end. I’ve read all Kathryn Casey’s books and have just downloaded her latest one Possessed that I have started. Reading to me is a perfect sleeping medicine, it’s the last thing I do before switching off lights at night. I often hear the “unputdownable” label given to books but to me it’s often the opposite. Ending a reading session at a fascinating or intriguing part I will stop to “save” the coming part for the next day.

If one is a fan of the true crime genre, well then, this is a must read book, as it will not disappoint. Meticulously researched and well-organized, it lays out all the lurid details of the murder of an elderly self-made millionaire by his gold digging, brazen wife. This larger than life tale takes place in the Lone Star State of Texas.

Steven Beard had just lost his beloved wife of forty years, when his eyes fell upon the sexy Celeste, a waitress in the country club of which he was a member. Still acclimating to the hole that the death of his wife had left in his life, Steve hired Celeste to be his housekeeper, and to his friends’ and family’s amazement, married her, a woman young enough to be his granddaughter, shortly thereafter.

It was then that Steve’s descent into hell began, and Steve started seeing another side of Celeste, a woman who wanted it all, only to have her husband stand in her way. Despite his rocky relationship with Celeste, whom he had considered divorcing, he had formed a bond with her twin teenage daughters, Jennifer and Katherine, whom he loved and for whom Steve was the only truly stable parental figure in their traumatized lives.

Unfortunately, the twins’ affection for Steve was overridden by fear of their mother, which did not bode well for Steve. Then Celeste met Tracey, a malleable woman with mental health issues, and an affair began, one that would lead to the unthinkable.

This is definitely a well-written true crime book that will keep the reader turning the pages until the very end. Fans of the true crime genre will thoroughly enjoy this book.
