Not the best Howie Carr book

Stevie the Rifleman Flemmi was, for forty years, one of the most feared. Not the best Howie Carr book. Basically this book is Steve Flemmi's redacted deposition as given during interviews with the FBI. Carr occasionally adds substance or clarification to the narrative by enclosing it in parentheses. For what its worth, it does provide another source detailing how extensive the Bulger - Flemmi criminal operation was and how may political and law enforcement officials were corrupted during this period.

I looked forward to reading Carr's new book on Rifleman Flemmi. Unfortunately, after the opening chapter actually authored by Carr the balance of the book was nothing more than Flemmi's depositions. Compounding the problem with this book was that many names were blacked out to 'protect the innocent". In sum, I was hoping for a book actually authored by Howie Carr,,,not this..
Era
This book was another side that you have not heard before. At least I thought so.It is a shame that this leech of society was not executed.By one of his own or the Government. Salemmi said it best when he said they were nothing but Jackals.Nobody was safe with those two vermin walking the streets of Boston.
About the book itself it was a good read but you had to keep an open mind. One minute he was a follower of Bulger and Co. the next he was a leader. In Flemmis own words that is.Not for one minute do I believe that he had any remorse for any of his victims as he claimed. He was not a minor player at all.he was partners in crime with Bulger.I wonder how much of a memory he will have for the Bulger trial. They both have many more skeletons in their closets. This book does hold your interest in a positive way.You already knew the end results and this book fills in on a lot of the blanks.Mr Carr did his homework on this book.He sure got his digs in there in showing his feelings towards this group of thugs.Well worth the time to read.

all this "book" is a transcript of his testimony. it is so redacted it is ridiculous. i really thought this would be steve flemmi's life story not some half blacked out document. Don't waste your money

...this is just a recitation of FBI and Mass State Police debriefing reports from one of the most psychotic killers that ever lived. He wasn't a gangster's gangster like John Martarano was...he was just a serial killer that happened to be around a life that afforded him plenty of opportunity to do what he loved - kill, mutilate and dismember human beings. A true sociopath and a very boring retelling of his tale.

This means that all I have to do to sell a book is to cut, copy, and paste someone else's work? He should give the transcriber a royalty. I was thinking about a book called 'Me and Jesus, Fishers of Men' and just reprinting the New Testament with the names blacked out. Waddya think?
Rit
This book is simply a compilation of police authored interviews with named Informant. Book is heavily redacted and no interpretation or insight from author to help the reader.

I think Howie got a little lazy on this one. It does not compare to his other books "The Brothers Bulger"or "Hit Man" that i found not only good investigative reporting but easy to read and enjoy the journey.
I have read all of Howie Carr's books, loved them all. This one is more a chronology of facts than a story of the "Rifleman's" life. I am not so sure why the change in format or writing style. I love this author, I hope he returns to his "telling the story" style.
