While Elliott's stepfather is eventually sentenced to 15 years, little exultancy follows until Elliott decides to tell her story and achieves British bestsellerdom.

While Elliott's stepfather is eventually sentenced to 15 years, little exultancy follows until Elliott decides to tell her story and achieves British bestsellerdom. The vagueness of time and place, however, raise disquieting questions about reality.

A Memoir I suspect that the audiences for books like The Little Prisoner fall into two categories.

I suspect that the audiences for books like The Little Prisoner fall into two categories. Firstly, there are those who come from stable, happy homes, who can’t understand how anyone can abuse a child, and want to find out about a world they can barely imagine. Secondly, there are those who suffered something similar themselves and find some comfort in discovering they are not alone in the world.

When Jane Elliott was four years old, the nightmare began. But at the age of twenty-one she escaped. and then she fought back. She became the helpless victim of a sociopath-bullied, dominated, and sexually abused by a man only fourteen years her senior: her stepfather. For nearly two decades she was held prisoner, both physically and emotionally. The Little Prisoner is the shocking, astonishing, and ultimately uplifting true story of one woman's shattering twenty-year ordeal-and how she triumphed against an evil and violent human monster when honesty and bravery were her only weapons.

Andrew Crofts (born 1953) based in England, is a ghostwriter. Many of his subjects have been international and have topped the best-seller charts of United Kingdom and other countries. In 2014 he published a memoir "Confessions of a Ghostwriter" (published by Friday Project). Although the book is filled with anecdotes about the ghostwriting profession the Daily Telegraph noted that "when it comes to famous clients, he is as silent as Jeeves". The Little Prisoner by Jane Elliott, (Harper Collins), a tale of child abuse which went to number one in the Sunday Times charts both as a hardback and a paperback, selling half a million copies within a few months.

The Little Prisoner is When Jane Elliott was four years old, the nightmare began. The book responsible for aggressively pulling at my heart strings is titled THE LITTLE PRISONER. It comes out in August, but I was able to get an advanced copy because I'm a intern at HARPERCOLLINS, who are the publishers of the book.

Author: Jane Elliott Andrew Crofts. Genre: Biographies and Memoirs. Initially I wanted to write the book because I knew how much I’d been helped by reading A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer. Read a fragment illustrations. If just one child who was being abused read my story, I reasoned, and felt inspired enough to speak out and end the cycle of bullying in their own life, it would be worth doing.

Jane Elliot lived through a childhood that most never survive to tell the tale.
The things this woman went through are unimaginable horrors. From being a sex, and domestic slave for 17 years to being beat down for speaking out against her abuser by her very own brothers.
I'm angry that her mother was never charged with neglect. I know Jane wants to believe that her mom didn't know about the sexual abuse she endured but deep down I think she knows that really her mother could have cared less.
This is a tale of survival. Once you open this book you will not want to set it down.

This difficult subject of physical, sexual, & verbal abuse was well written in a tasteful manner. As someone not exposed to this in my life, it helped me to understand how someone could continue to be subjected to this type of treatment and not speak up for themselves sooner. It became a life consuming fear for her to deal with not only her abuser but those that protected him as well. My heart goes out to her and am amazed by her strength and courage to finally speak up and carry on with her own life.

I sometimes wonder why they write these books and just repeat the same stuff over and over.....I like getting to know what is in someones head..but when its chapter after chapter of the same thing...Could it not be said it happen over and over...and give more of the day to day..and let us into their lives more...I don't know the mother or stepfather...in any detail...or other kids..So it is about abuse but you never really know what is happening behind the scenes..and I am sure the abuse was all consuming.

My girlfriend went through 2 1/2 years of sexual ritual abuse. I am very aware of the unspeakable things done to children. The author is right...... Good decent people cannot believe these things take place, perhaps under their very noses.

I am glad the author shared her life and barred her soul for others to experience.

Well done

I went through the same situation actually, almost exactly. The same as far as the sexual abuse and this book has helped me realize a lot. I found it almost impossible to put down. Best book I've ever read!!! I truly wish I had a signed hard copy. My absolute favourite. It has boosted my courage and opened my eyes to a lot. I'm just absolutely in love with this and will continue to follow the author who has become my new life idol.

I thought this story of Jane was unbelivable! How sad for a girl to go through the things she did--and her "mum" couldnt help her. Jane went through hell and back with the abuse from her stepfather Richard. She writes about terrible, terrible things that made me want to cry at times. This story is a heartfelt one, and the proper punishement aventually comes . I would love another book from Jane --on how her life is going and how she has been healing through writing this book etc.

I had to keep reading it once I started it. It was disturbing. It was also very confusing with a muddled up timeline it seemed. I don't think I'd recommend it. The evilness is almost too hard to comprehend how this monster lived amongst people.
My heart broke over and over again for this woman and the child she once was. It's another prime example of how the system continues to fail children. I'm glad she had the courage to claim her happy ending.
