When She Was Bad book. Shana Alexander is a really good "page turner" investigative writer.
When She Was Bad book. This book was really interesting as Bess Meyerson was popular when I was growing up and she really was beautiful. Of course, in this book, I learned more about her than I really wanted to know. Bess' bubble burst - of course, she's no different from a million other women in that she made bad choices with men and did things that weren't nice. I felt really sorry for Judge Gabel. And for Andy's wife, Nancy.
I like Shana Alexander as an author. This book is quite interesting and detailed about Bess Myerson, the self-proclaimed Queen of the Jews and her life. Alexander details Bess' childhood and poor upbringing in the Bronx with a nasty mother and a loving father. She became the First Jewish Miss America in 1945. From then on, she became a public figure in both media and New York City politics. Bess herself was a mess from the beginning.

When She Was Bad. The Story of Bess, Hortense, Sukhreet and Nancy.
Shana Alexander (October 6, 1925 – June 23, 2005) was an American journalist. Although she became the first woman staff writer and columnist for Life magazine, she was best known for her participation in the debate segments of 60 Minutes with conservative James J. Kilpatrick.
When Ed Koch was campaigning for mayor of New York, Myerson was a regular fixture at his side, helping to quell rumors about his homosexuality
As a beautiful, verbal college graduate, Bronx-born Bess became the first Jewish Miss America and then a game-show personality (she was the ""Lady in Mink,"" a Vanna White precursor on The Big Payoff). When Ed Koch was campaigning for mayor of New York, Myerson was a regular fixture at his side, helping to quell rumors about his homosexuality. At a political dinner in the course of Myerson's unsuccessful bid for a Senate seat, Queens boss Donald Manes introduced her to a local contractor, Andy Capasso.
