A Round-Heeled woman is poignant and honest

In stock on October 5, 2019. A Round-Heeled woman is poignant and honest. I think most women want sex, but don't know how to ask for it, and JJ tells us simply - use your words! Some of her story is sad, and I think men can be such bastards - they can make things so much more difficult than they need to be.

A Round-Heeled Woman book. Indeed, retirement seems to have breathed new life into Juska: she loses a substantial amount of weight and clears out the psychic cobwebs through extensive therapy. Yet something is missing from the life of a woman who is easily aroused, one who adores penises. Through placing the ad, she gives herself permission, after years of celibacy, to have sex. More than that, though, she authorizes herself to be a sexual being. As a woman in her late 60’s, claiming her desire is an empowering move.

Round-heeled is an old-fashioned label for a woman who is. .

Round-heeled is an old-fashioned label for a woman who is promiscuous-someone who nowadays might be called easy. Jane Juska’s brave, honest memoir will probably raise eyebrows and blood pressure, but it will undoubtedly appeal to the very large audience of grown-up readers who will be fascinated and inspired by her daring adventure. With the publication of her first book, A Round-Heeled Woman: My Late-Life Adventures in Sex and Romance, Juska became a spokesperson for the romantically active senior set, and she appears frequently before book groups and women's groups.

A Round-Heeled Woman : My Late-Life Adventures in Sex and Romance. Jane Juska's new book, A Round Heeled Woman, is not just a tale of the results of her advertisement for a sexual relationship with "a man I like". She meets some wonderful and some not so wonderful men, and the reader suffers through the disappointments and rejections and cheers the successes. And there are several.

Jane Juska at her home in Berkeley, Calif. in 2006, three years after the publication of her memoir A Round-Heeled Woman: My Late-Life Adventures in Sex and Romance. Jim Wilson/The New York Times. As Jane Juska - divorced, lonely and 66 - watched Eric Rohmer’s film Autumn Tale in 1999 in a theater in Berkeley, Calif. she was swept up by the story, in which a married woman secretly places a personal advertisement in a newspaper for a widowed friend who believes it is too late for her to find love.

A Round-Heeled Woman: My Late-Life Adventures in Sex and Romance. The response was overwhelming, and Juska took a sabbatical from teaching to meet some of the men who had replied.

She was retired and volunteering at Planned Parenthood when she wrote her 2003 book, A Round-Heeled Woman: My Late-Life Adventures in Sex and Romance. The title came from an archaic term for a promiscuous woman. Inspired by an Eric Rohmer film, Autumn Tale, it read: Before I turn 67 – next March – I would like to have a lot of sex with a man I like. If you want to talk first, Trollope works for me. Speaking to the New York Times in 2003, she said that before she sent the ad she thought to herself: What.

I adored this book, so much so that several years later I am purchasing it for my Kindle in order to reread it. The premise is delightful, and I think those readers who criticized it did so either out of envy, or shock, or both. This book is the true story of a woman who wanted to live life on her terms, joyously, honestly, and adventurously, and with a certain enviable style. If you tend to be prudish, don't read this unless you want your horizons broadened. If you want to live vicariously with a woman who had the nerve to go after what she wanted, then enjoy this book along with me---again. Five stars for sure.

Ms Juska writes with insight and compassion on friendship, loneliness, aging, the joys of teaching, and the rewards and frustrations of ageing and intimacy. Though she recently passed away, I am now about the same age she was when she wrote this book. Read it not as a sex story, but as the life story of a talented and complicated woman.

What a wonderful, humorous, courageous, uninhibited, effusive, candid, delightful book! I absolutely enjoyed reading Juska's friend-to-friend style of writing as she plunges headfirst into an outlandish adventure totally out of character with her (up-to-then) proper, respectable persona. At age 66 she decides to send a provocative ad to a personals section in a literary magazine, reading: "Before I turn 67--next March--I would like to have a lot of sex with a man I like. If you want to talk first, Trollope works for me." (Trollope, of course, refers to her favorite author). She thus embarks on a journey of lust, passion, happiness and love, as she discovers the pleasures of the flesh while overcoming old ghosts such as her mother's judgment, body image woes, and society's conventions on how little old ladies should feel and act. --A word of caution, though: this book is quite explicit! ...Ok, so maybe that will make you pick it up. I can guarantee, however, you will not be able to put it down. Juska is a funny, sexy lady and in the end, this book is triumphant.

An enjoyable read, especially for us seniors. I disagree with the reviewer that didn’t enjoy the later parts. I would have preferred less autobiography (the earlier parts) and more of the experiences she set out to explore (more prevalent in the last sections).
doesnt Do You
Well written but if you are expecting lots of very detailed sex then you will be disappointed.

I’m now in the same age bracket that Jane was when she wrote this book. I think the adventures that resulted from her personal ad were interesting. She was a brave woman. She said she was interested in sex with a man she liked and I think she was but I also think she was looking for love and a longer-term relationship. She has a quirky writing style that I liked.

I loved Unaccompanied Women and was thrilled to learn there were more Jane Juska words to devour.

A Round-Heeled woman is poignant and honest. I think most women want sex, but don't know how to ask for it, and JJ tells us simply - use your words!

Some of her story is sad, and I think men can be such bastards - they can make things so much more difficult than they need to be. There is one loyal and true lover in JJ's story though. NYC. I'm glad she found it.
I think it was exactly as advertised and, therefore, a bit sad to read of Jane's disappointments despite her brave efforts. Disappointment in love and lust happens at every stage of life; perhaps it came across as more poignant because this was a late-life venture.
Some readers may have been looking for more titillating material. I am a single woman of a certain age and I applaud the writer's immense courage in not just embarking on her quest, but in writing about it. Undoubtedly, she did not include details of every man she met, and events that happened, for a variety of reasons. Jane is to be commended for her courage and integrity. It does sound in places as if she fell more in love with New York than with the men she met! It was all part of the Grand Adventure.
