Brutal, touching, and humorous, this book recounts McNab’s time in the SAS’s Air Troop. It made me realise that he can fight as well as write.

The things they saw and did during that time would take them all to breaking point – and some beyond – in the years that followed. Brutal, touching, and humorous, this book recounts McNab’s time in the SAS’s Air Troop. Treading in the footsteps of Sassoon, Brooke and Owen he pretty much founded the genre of the modern military memoir

I hit him on the right shoulder to let him know. Andy McNab joined the infantry as a boy soldier

I hit him on the right shoulder to let him know. I got the same from Paul behind me. The two jumpmasters were now fixed to the fuselage via a webbing strap and stood on the edge of the tailgate gripping both Chris and Nish to stop them falling as the aircraft lined up on target. Andy McNab joined the infantry as a boy soldier. In 1984 he was 'badged' as a member of 22 SAS Regiment and was involved in both covert and overt special operations worldwide. During the Gulf War he commanded Bravo Two Zero, a patrol that, in the words of his commanding officer, 'will remain in regimental history for ever'.

This is Andy McNab's explosive true story of his life in the SAS. In 1983 Andy McNab joined SAS B Squadron, otherwise known as Seven Troop. This is Andy McNab's gripping account of the time he served in Seven Troop - from the day he joined them in the Malayan jungle, to the day he handed in his beret and started a new life. Never-before-revealed operations and heartbreaking human stories combine in his thrilling true story. This recording is unabridged. Typically abridged audiobooks are not more than 60 per cent of the author's work and as low as 30 per cent with characters and plotlines removed.

Those in the know about world's special forces know the UK's s Special Air Service. The regiment's name sounds like a fast-delivery outfit, and it is that, when fast, lethal reaction and destruction are needed in the dangerous corners of the world. SAS are on call to do the dirty work. rescuing hostages, killing terrorists, blowing up things. They are drawn from the regular services, and cross-trained in variety of military specialties. This autobiography covers that transition from the parade-ground army life, to stealth jungle-desert-urban warfare, when the SAS arrives in camouflage of one kind or another, kills and departs without bands playing. SAS success in WWII and thereafter spawned other such regiments in other Western nations, the on-call all-purpose response to war in the shadows. Seven Troop tells how it's done.

I read McNab's Immediate Action and Bravo 2 Zero and was captivated by both of them. Troop Seven is a more descriptive account of how it feels to be a member of the SAS from being the inexperienced new guy among others who have participated in legendary SAS operations, to being a confident and capable operator in his own right. Included is the training and operations that made him experienced.
What he does differently in this book compared to his two others is describe the costs of being SAS. How he and others react to the deaths of their friends when they are killed on operations, the political decision making of the higher ups that override tactical common sense, being a small cog in a big machine and ultimately not being very valued by SAS headquarters. The personal costs of being SAS are staggering. PTSD, alcoholism, depression, mental illness, divorce, isolation, suicide and more.
After more than 10 years of the war on terror, we now know that it has to be this way. But after reading this candid book, it's clear that being an SAS soldier, what is demanded of you changes and costs them, making it difficult for them to do anything else. Maybe being a super soldier isn't such a great deal.

Seven Troop is yet another well written account of SAS actions on a much more personal scale, literally "a day in the life" thereof. Mr. McNab reminds us that not all the worlds bad neighborhoods are in Iraq or Afghanistan. Having hunted Scuds alongside his B Sq bros in 2003, the SAS mission, devotion to duty and combat effectiveness are unheralded. This book is no exception. Highly recommended.

Mr. McNab hits the nail on the head with this book. It's not always "fun and games", getting tuned up for your mission. If it goes right, everybody comes home and only the bad guys die. Unfortunately, not everyone reads the same rulebook. Too many times, it's "Adjust, Adapt and Overcome!" This book certainly underscores that attitude. Great read for anyone interested in this genre. Looking forward to next book.

I've read all of Andy McNab' s books now. I don't know how this one passed me by. It was an excellent insight into his career in the SAS and the comradery of the military. Such a shame that some of the bravest most hardened soldiers in the world fin themselves succumbing to the struggles of PTSD because of the lack of awareness to it. This certainly puts it to the front of the mind.

I would also recommend Andy's other books both the fiction and biographical.

A personal look at special services, a branch of the military not to often written about. A bit too English some times for an American, but the author writes with great authority. A worthy follow-up book to Rogue Heroes.

I have already read this book several times. I had two hard copies, read them to pieces, so I bought the Kindle version. He is a compelling story teller and he really brings issues like PTSD to light. I have read everything that he has written, fiction and nonfiction. Seven Troop is a great introduction to Andy McNab.
Great book!
