This book told pieces of the hell Mr. Eisner had to go through and how he managed to survive. I was told by my teacher (and several other students in my class) that this was a "hard read" and it would take a little while to finish. This unforgettable story gives a true tale of a young man during the Holocaust. It tells how he went from the Warsaw ghetto to a concentration camp and then to be liberated.

One of the best books about the holocaust I have ever read. I will put that info on the back an an 8 x 10 I framed in a shadow box with a piece of the wall enclosed and a picture of a street I could not indentify until I read the book. One person found this helpful.

Jack Reacher is a fictional protagonist of a series of novels, novellas and short stories by British author Jim Grant under the pen name Lee Child. A former major in the United States Army Military Police Corps, Reacher roams the United States taking odd jobs and investigating suspicious and frequently dangerous situations. The Reacher novels are written either in the first-person or third-person. The schedule for the Reacher series is one-per-year, except for 2010 when two were published

Eisner, Jack; Mazal Holocaust Collection. This book is absolutely incredible. I recommend it to anybody who loves history because this is an incredible story of survival against all odds.

From the terror of the Warsaw ghetto to the brutality and horror of concentration and labor camps, this is Eisner's remarkable personal story.

In 1946, Judge Simon Rifkind, the Jewish adviser to the American Army in Europe, noted that survivors of the German concentration camps: expected the miracle of liberation to be followed by worldwide welcome extended by a repentant mankind which had permitted them to suffer such barbarism. There was no such welcome.

Follows the story of holocaust survivor Jack Eisner, a one-time promising music student whose life is horribly interrupted by the Nazi takeover, and chronicles his daring escape from the Warsaw Ghetto with the help of Christian sympathizers and a band of Jewish rebel teens.

At the end, the author wrote, "Everyone who had a chance to read the manuscript in progress expressed disbelief that all these experiences could have happened to one person and yet he survived." This is how I felt reading this book. His will to live and his resourcefulness were amazing. What guts he had, for example, to plot and to rescue his mother from the Nazi hospital! He came so close to being killed by the Nazis so many times and managed to escape so many times. It's hard to imagine that there really are people in the world with such courage. I didn't want to read another WWII book, but I picked this one up (my wife had bought it)while waiting for my next book to arrive, and once I started it I couldn't put it down. If you can stand to hear the horrible realities, read this book.

I can honestly say I have never read a book quite like this one. Talk about lots of drama, action, and suffering in one persons life. Most people don't have such horrors in a life time, but Jack Eisner had everything in six horrific years. I admire him so much to be able to survive the Warsaw Ghetto, there were so few people that survived it. He also survived the camps, escape attempts, two attempts at hanging him, and a death march. I can't imagine the strength this man must have had both physically and mentally to have endured such suffering. One of the best books about the holocaust I have ever read.

The book arrived in less than 2 days. I was expecting it in 5 to 7. Then when I looked at the book, indeed as advertised, it was definitely "like new". In fact, I do not think there is any difference, except an insignificant black mark that only can be seen when the book is closed and then on the bottom edges of the pages. The book is beautiful inside and out.

I'm very interested in WWII and I came upon this book and didn't think twice about buying it, & I absolutely don't regret buying it. This book is beyond words, I can't even explain. It's so sad. This book made me realize how people really suffered & what a lot of people went trough in the Holocaust. I just can't explain how great this book is, I'm sorry but I really can't. If you're thinking about buying this book then do it. You won't regret it. I just don't know what to say, this book left me speechless. Rest In Peace Jack Eisner, a TRUE HERO.

It was full of information on the Warsaw Ghetto wall that I needed. I will put that info on the back an an 8 x 10 I framed in a shadow box with a piece of the wall enclosed and a picture of a street I could not indentify until I read the book.
Thank you.

The author describes his daredevil tricks, escapes and survival techniques - all while he is just a CHILD; 13-14 years old. If the author didn't exercise "artistic freedom", I apologize. It was astonishing that in the midst of all the chaos, destruction, starvation, filth, lack of decent clothing, disease, torture and fear of detection, he still found time for sex with 2 different girls; which he describes in vivid detail on no less than 9 different pages...I found this to be slightly bizarre considering the subject matter of the book.

Nevertheless the author should be commended for coming forward and writing about his suffering and loss of family members during this dark time in world history.

Spoiler warning :

I am an avid student of the Holocaust and hence have great empathy for the hell that Jews suffered in WW2. This book covers the experiences of a very determined and resourceful teenager in the cauldron hell that was the Warsaw Ghetto. As the author states in his closing chapter the book only covers half of his Holocaust experience - I fully grasp that however certain aspects of the book did begin to worry me. Majdanek - like Treblinka and Sobidor - was exclusively an extermination camp and only very few Jews were kept alive to pacify the incoming transports, cut hair and to sort out the luggage and clothes ... how did Jack's mother manage to be amongst these few is never explained. Given that Halina was Aryan-looking I can concede that she could well have been forced to trade her life for work in a camp bordello and as "luck" would have it, it was Flossenburg the very camp Jack lands up in. This with jewellery given to him by his mother at Madjanek and concealed so effortlessly and conveniently to buy Halina's transfer to Ravensbruck. Immediately after the war ended Europe was in chaos but in this total mayhem Jack manages to find Halina - amongst thousands - in Belsen and she dies a free woman in his arms. Again not completely impossible since some 30000 inmates died after the camp was liberated but I truly could not stop myself from wondering - at this point - whether there was not a bit of literary licence exercised here. If I am wrong I beg - in the light of his undisputed suffering and loss - the author's forgiveness since this young man's survival alone speaks for his luck, good fortune and unbelievable resourcefullness in the face of the most inconceivable, terrible odds. Today we should pause to celebrate the 70 year ago assassination of Reinhard Heydrich the architect of the Final Solution - may his damned spirit wander forever lost in the afterlife !
This book had it all--action, good writing, history and more. I, of course, knew about the atrocities carried out against the Jewish people by the Nazis, but reading Mr. Eisner's first-hand account made it seem more real. I, as a reader, felt like I was there with him through all narrow escapes. He showed remarkable bravery in the face of almost-certain death and was successful every time.
