While the complete idiot may think that Einstein relativity, Moring goes back as far as the ancient Greeks to set a solid stage for Einstein's myriad accomplishments in fields ranging from physics to philosophy. The book's explanations are complete enough to both satisfy the reader and pacify the scientist, and the cheeky writing style is amusing without being annoying. It contained more information and more history about the evolution of physics and about the various other physicists that played a big role in its evolution.

Gary Moring did a great job with this difficult subject and did not even have to use any equations. I have read Einstein form Dummies and I think that this book is better. It contained more information and more history about the evolution of physics and about the various other physicists that played a big role in its evolution.

You should also check out his other book Theories of the Universe which is also a great read and eventually gets into Eastern religion and philosophy.

You can't discuss relativity and quantum mechanics without also discussing how the universe came into existence and the forces that are behind it even now and how the universe works at its most basic level.

You may be surprised with what you find in the Theories book and how much we still don't know about the workings of the Universe and how humble we should be that this infinitely complex universe somehow came into existence and for all of our knowledge and research we still can't figure out how it works and for sure can't figure out how someone or something could have designed and made it.

Overall a good read. This book is about so much more than just Einstein and his theories. About the first 100 pages or so is an introduction to physics--everything from the mechanics of light to gravity and uniform acceleration. It's presented an a relatively (no pun intended) easy-to-understand fashion.
A small portion of the book is biographical in nature, dealing with Einstein's personal and professional life. Even more, of course, is devoted to the development of his brilliant theories, especially the Special and General Theories of Relativity.
Beyond that, there's a lot of information on quantum physics. In my opinion, up to that point, most of the book is written such that the average reader could understand most of it. Of course, once you get to quantum physics, one might question whether ANYONE could really understand that topic!
I would have given this book 4 or maybe even 5 stars, if the author hadn't wasted his (and my!) time with overly-lengthy discussions into "modern psychology" (e.g., Freud, Kant, etc.) and "Eastern mysticism " (e.g., Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, etc.). While he tries to make a connection between these topics and his discussion of quantum physics, I didn't think it was useful.

I have the first version and I learned a great deal about Einstein. Most of all it's a great course in physics. Easy to understand with humorous anecdotes. Highly recommend getting the updated edition.
GODMAX
Best book for understanding the man and his theory

Good product: clean and rapid deal.
AGAD
This book is written so that even non-mathematicians can understand Einstein and his theories.

I haven't finished the whole book, but it is already my favorite. It is a trip through history. The author builds science theory, and discovery through the ages, social climates, and general thinking in the given era. It's a great quick reference for scientist, and dates of discoveries. I highly recommend this book for anyone interest in digging deeper in to science. It is fascinating.
I was delighted to be able to get this book. It helped me in a discussion group I attend. It came in good order and on time. Thanks.
