But then I am a fan of all of Shirley MacLaine's books that I have read so far (this was my 4th book). I like them because they are autobiographical in nature, but they also present metaphysical concepts in a clear and concise manner without being preachy or long winded. It's all in the playing picks up where Dancing in the Light leaves off. Shirley MacLaine tells the story of the making of her book Out On A Limb into a TV mini-series and some of the challenges she encountered during the making of the film, such as shooting on location in Peru or the on-again-off-again flip flopping of John Heard who couldn't make up his mind whether or not to play the part of David (a major role), one of MacLaine's metaphysical mentors.

Whether you are like me, a fan of Shirley MacLaine, or curious about metaphysical concepts but don't want to get caught up in the mumbo jumbo of the metaphysical language, I highly recommend Shirley MacLaine's books, Out on a Limb, Dancing In the Light, It's All in the Playing and Going Within.

SEE, I MISSED THAT --on my first reading --years ago of this book --and her entire series of books.
This time --I CAUGHT IT--this is about the back ground of filming her experiences in Out On A Limb.
Its like they could do a movie about making the movie--etc
and when it came time to get everyone's credits down for that movie, which you can see on YOUTUBE, the entities that were channeled to Ms Maclaine were asked --how do you want your credits to read? Well, the Irish pickpocket had his say and then..
THEN the one channeled as John who signs off with "seek to be at peace ..." "the Father-Mother" etc
said has his name, John the Beloved, and he confirmed he wrote Revelations. WOW!
That was a "mind-blower" for me. Anyway-- I love this book and Out on a limb, not so much for the romance--but her travels and experiences. I am grateful to Ms. Maclaine for her books. She writes well, and you can get really into the scenery, the events --the book.

I had known for many years that I was supposed to read Out on a Limb. And then it kept popping up in my life so I knew I had to read it now. That was an incredible book and taught me, or “reminded me” of things that I have always known. Then I read Dancing in the Light which continued that education. Now having read this book, It’s All in the Playing, it’s just continuing my journey. I already look forward to the next book...

I loved this book. I love how introspective Shirley is, and how willing she is to share her journey with us. Personally, I learned a lot about how to apply some of these esoteric concepts to everyday life. I will say that if you haven't read "Out On a Limb" and "Dancing in the Light", you might have a hard time getting into this book. It seems like it would require the foundation of the other two.
