He is the author of many books, including Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning, Reforming Marriage, and A Primer on Worship and Reformation. The explanation of the Kingdom from conception at Christs first coming, through the groanings during our time and with the eventual birth at Christs second coming was an amazing analogy that I had not yet heard previously and provides new light on understanding the executing of time in our day.

Though most Christians refrain from predicting exactly when our world will end, many believe that when earth's finale does arrive, it will be a catastrophe. They expect that before Christ comes back to reclaim His own, Satan will escape his chains and return to wreak havoc on our planet. Details vary, but the general assumption is the same: things will get much, much worse before they get better. But is this really what the Bible teaches? Leaving aside the theological terms that often confuse and muddle this question, Douglas Wilson instead explains eschatology as the end of the greatest story in the world—the story of humanity. He turns our attention back to the stories and prophecies of Scripture and argues for "hopeful optimism": the belief that God will be true to His promises, that His will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven, and that the peace and good will we sing about at Christmas will one day be a reality here on earth.

This was a great book, not only was it eschatological in nature, it was very much from a big picture from creation to the culmination of a new heavens and new earth. The explanation of the Kingdom from conception at Christs first coming, through the groanings during our time and with the eventual birth at Christs second coming was an amazing analogy that I had not yet heard previously and provides new light on understanding the executing of time in our day.

Over all this was an excellent read that will hopefully realign the church at large with the intended mission from scripture and reform our current ideas of individual "renewal" every church gathering. We are to be salt and light. We are the agents to trample the darkness our culture brings about. We have a mission, and the church today has largely lost this understanding.

Loved this book and the authors ability to paint a different picture then our christian culture currently relies on. Thinking biblically.

One of the best books on the purpose and meaning of Christianity in historical context, written from the perspective of a faithful believer. Wilson's high view of faith instills confidence in his understanding of the scriptural view of the subject while skeptics, atheists and agnostics always seem to dance around difficult questions. The author's exposition of heaven is also more potent, rich and comprehensible than the hyper-spiritualized explanation of heaven espoused by so many evangelical preachers of our time. I pray for many blessings upon this effort to re-educate and empower the Christian masses with greater hope and understanding.

Though I am not sure still where I stand on the Millennial debate, Douglas Wilson does a fine job of poetically but very earnestly distilling the view of Postmillennialism. This book is a great overarching perspective and makes a lot of sense out of very unclear Bible passages with very clear Bible passages. I would reccomend it to anyone, especially Premillennial folk.

I've read many, many excellent Christian books, but if I had to compile a list of "essential Christian reads" this would make my list. Even if you don't agree with Wilson's eschatology, his presentation is so warm, encouraging, and full of Christian hope that you will find the brief sitting at his feat invigorating to your faith.

I approached this book with very little study of eschatology and no strong opinion either way. But as I read through his book I found myself saying, "yes of course...this is exactly what the text means" or "this is precisely the attitude and sense of mission that Christ meant to leave us with."

This is profound because it will ask you to re-consider if you are living as if Christ has already been victorious or if you are living as if one who is waiting for something else to happen first.

Just finished. Good read and good argument for victorious Church on earth. I definitely recommend it. But a stronger finish was needed. Seemed a bit to wane in the last chapters.

Doug Wilson does a wonderful job outlying a view of the gospel that is long in its vision and robust in its application. This view of eschatology refuses to be based on a few ambiguous passages but instead shows an eschatology that is gospel centered and hopeful!
In this short book, Doug Wilson offers an introduction to what he calls an "optimistic" view of history and a preterist interpretation of Scripture. Wilson does a good job of distilling his thoughts on these topics, and I would recommend this book to any layman interested in eschatology.
