Permission Evangelism book. Permission Evangelism: When to Talk, When to Walk. Michael Simpson’s Permission Evangelism is a practical and user-friendly attempt to address the common Christian fear of personal evangelism. The title sums up the approach accurately, as Simpson’s thesis is that evangelism is most effective and best received when it is conducted in a manner that is respectful of the unbeliever and aimed at securing the unbeliever’s willing acquiescence to hearing the Gospel.

When to Talk, When to Walk. There's no description for this book yet. Published July 2003 by Cook Communications Ministries (CO).

What is ‘permission evangelism’? It doesn’t mean we can only evangelize those who want to be evangelized!

Michael L. Simpson's Permission Evangelism: When to Talk, When to Walk (Cook Communications, 2003) also provides good advice on how to act when surrounded by unbelievers. Christianity is the one religion that is simultaneously hard (God is holy) and soft (God is loving), because Christ's sacrifice makes reasonable what would otherwise be a contradiction. Great sermons emerge from tough minds and warm hearts which understand that, and Sermons That Shape America: Reformed Preaching from 1630 to 2001 (P&R Publishing, 2003) contains some of the best.

This book was first given to my wife from our Pastor's wife. It's a very different view of what it means to be an evangelist.

authors approach is very similar to Jesus' approach. God brings people into our lives. Do we witness to them as Jesus witnessed to them in obedience to the Father. Very easy to read; yet thought provoking. Will probably give this off as a gift and purchase another for myself.

This book is all about the approach, its the evangelistic equivalent of how to play the game. I enjoy the emphasis in scripture but at times the book stretches verses using loose translations to fit the mold (but what christian book doesn't ) but overall the idea behind it is sound. It's building blocks of how to develop quick connections with people in short periods of time, how to connect at an advanced pace and open people up that normally aren't open to discussion. It tells you which weapons to pull out and which ones to leave holstered, and that is a good thing too.

If you want to take a smarter approach at one to one outreach, I would say use this book has a lot of key concepts. Example: Instead of damnation or "where are you going when you die?" the question the book asks us to deliver is a little more tangible to a non-believer, "Are you struggling to be a better person do you want to be a better person?"

This book was very beneficial to my effectiveness and confidence in sharing my faith. There are some great and somewhat unique ideas that Simpson writes on, and some things that are very practical for use in day-to-day evangelism at work, school, etc. The author shows you how to get people to ASK about your faith rather than having to "push" it on them or feel like you're making them tense or uncomfortable when you introduce spiritual talk.

Of all the books I've read over the years on evangelism, I think this is the most helpful. I continue to advocate for an evangelism as a ministry to human need and life transformation in the pattern of Jesus. For him the gospel was not so much a transaction to be sought but the reality of God's reign to be experienced. Nevertheless, I find Simpson's approach to sensitivity to the invitation of the person in the conversation right on.

I can see why this book won awards. It is wonderful. I will read everything I can from Mr. Simpson.

This book is a must read for all Christians. It walks you through how to "chat" with others and share your story with them. It stresses the importance of making a connection with the unsaved and how to minister to them in a laid back, patient way.

This book was well written. Though evangelizing is not a formula made event, Simpson gives new perspective on how we should evangelize in This Modern Time.
This book is a good adaptation of the secular marketing book Permission Marketing by Seth Godin. The key concept I like most in this book is looking for the responsive. When I was an overseas missionary that was the biggest revelation for me, that my job was to identify the people who were open to my message. I see that marketing can help you invite response from the people you want to reach who are open. The people who are not open yet? I wait for them. I spend my time with the open. I think Jesus worked this way too. Read the book and see if you don't agree this makes sense.
