Sorryyy
Divas of Damascus Road follows the story of three women who are cousins: Dianne, Yolanda, and Regina. They are plagued with personal and familial problems and they hope to get through them. I expected a heart-tugging read as I watch the characters persevere through their circumstances, but I was disappointed. Instead, the whole book felt like I was watching a vain reality show that’s trying to milk too much drama out of each other in an attempt to boost viewer ratings. I have to admit, however, that the secrets Aunt Gloria is harboring are definitely worth the drama. If Stimpson writes a stand-alone book that just focuses on Aunt Gloria, I wouldn’t hesitate reading it. I’d love to know more about this character.

Another complaint that I have is the lack of clear transition within and between chapters. Just as I was starting to get comfortable with a scene, it very crudely moves on to another scene without any warning whatsoever. Most of the time, the scenes weren’t even remotely related. I lost track of how many times I got lost and backtracked because of the lack of transition.

Overall, Divas of Damascus Road is quite disappointing. Bland drama interspersed with constant religious references didn’t quite pique my curiosity. This definitely could have been done better.

Ms. Stimpson provided an in-depth look into the lives of three women. As we get to know Yolanda, Regina, and Dianne we see inner-strength in these women that they didn't know they had. Plagued with insecurities, and fears they are their own worst enemy keeping themselves from the love and success that is theirs for the taking. The truths of their past lies in the hands of the matriarchs of their family, Aunt Toe, Joyce Ann, and Gloria. And it isn't until certain truths are disclosed that the healing can really begin.

A family filled with secrets, lies, and heartache, it takes a tragedy to bring the family close together again as they attempt to heal old wounds and reconcile differences. Michelle Stimpson does a wonderful job of showing how the African-American family can break down from past secrets, lack of communication, and attempting to live life based on how society dictates it should be lived.

This was an excellent read and her characters are well written and defined. You can relate to them through their hurts, failures, and victories. I recommend this book for anyone who wants drama and suspense. But be prepared, you will also find that she ministers to your heart and open wounds as well through this book. Excellent Read!

Divas of Damascus Road was a great story from beginning to the end. The Characters definitely made you feel what they were going thru. The secrets that were reveal that this family was holding down deep definitely tested the family faith. The Ruckus Women were strong beautiful women that had some scars that definitely attack their faith and their future because without healing your past it will definitely show up in your present and your future that is why my heart went out to Dianne the most because she was running from her past.

The storyline was well executed and the characters was well develop that made for a great and easy to follow story. The lesson that I got from this story was is running from your past and not facing your demons will hinder the progress of life and secrets only destroy the family.

The Rucker family was a family of beautiful, strong, smart women holding secrets. Dianne Rucker moved away from her family to avoid the pain and guilt that she had. Dianne was called back home for her Aunt Gloria’s wedding. Dianne did not want to return to her hometown because she did not want to see her mother. Regina was an excellent lawyer, married with a new baby, but she had issues with her weight. Yolanda is a pharmacist with a touch of OCD. Everything had to be perfect in her life. Gloria is recently married after being a widow for years. Gloria takes care of her sister Joyce Ann, who is a drug addict. Gloria and Joyce Ann have been holding on to secrets for years. Once secrets are revealed their lives change. One must remember to call on God, for healing and forgiveness.

This book is about family! There are many secrets in this family that hurt others by not telling them sooner. When tragedy strikes and Shannon dies, the family struggles to deal with it. What they could have done different doesn't matter, it's how they accepted or did not accept it is what affects them all. Joyce Ann struggles with a life of drugs and alcohol. Dianne struggles with relationships. Regina struggles with weight and eating disorders. Will they each learn to lean on God and realize the men He brought into their lives will help them be better?

I did enjoy this book, it was a little long, but well worth it to see how this family pulled together and overcame so much!

As a Women, I could certainly relate to this book. I have travelled down the Damascus road. While my road might be different, I thank God for his deliverance while on this road. I did not want to put this book down. I would read until wee hours of the morning. This book hit home for me and what a turn of events in the end. A few events left my mouth wide open. This Author is a Diva in her own right and I will continue to read and recommend her books. This book was assigned through my church book club and I can't wait to get together with my Sisters in Christ to discuss this book in detail. A must read, you won't be disappointed

Loved this read. From the start a "diva to be" has a valley experience.... one that an adult would wince at, and a child would surely be in a perpetual sinkhole. African Americans grow up with a saying, "what goes on this house, stays in this house", but this book shows what occurs when the "going on's" are buried so deep, they can only be dug up with bulldozer turn of events.
