Books by Lawana Blackwell. Chapter 1. Soft raps upon a door were creepy at 1:00 in the morning. As they waited for the elevator, he explained that he had been hired by a Tallulah, Mississippi, attorney by the name of Stanley Malone. He took another card from his wallet.

Books by Lawana Blackwell. Especially when a person lived alone. Pulse pounding, Carley Reed set the pan of Gnocchi alla Giordano on the stove and tossed the oven mitts to the table on her way through the kitchen. I’ll see who it is, Jim! she called in the empty living room of her apartment. She closed her left eye to squint through the peephole with her right. He’s handling Cordelia Walker’s estate.

A good read and I'd pick up another of Lawana Blackwell's contemporary books again with no hesitation.

She had learned in college that worry was an energy drain as well as a migraine trigger, and she needed every bit of energy and clearheadedness for Annabel Lee Café. h Thursday had resulted in five employees she would begin training in two weeks. Paperwork consumed the time between interviews, and so she had very little work for Brooke. Still, the girl had pedaled over every morning, just to see. Here you are, Carley said on Friday morning, handing her an envelope. The girl tore the bit of tape on the flap and took out the check.

I usually associate Lawana Blackwell with historical fiction, so it was a bit of a surprise to find out that she also wrote stories set in contemporary times. When I first started reading A Table by the Window, I thought that the novel was a contemporary romance, but it is more of a story about a wounded and lost sheep returning to the Shepherd's fold.

In A Table by the Window, author Lawana Blackwell takes on some difficult subjects and when you first look at the list, it seems a bit daunting. But Blackwell tackles the subjects with sensitivity, and at the same time manages to tell a story that will warm your heart. And when you've finished the book you'll yearn for more of Tallulah, Mississippi and its inhabitants. Even though Tallulah has problems, the residents are connected to each other and honestly care about each other. I enjoyed another book by Lawana Blackwell. Overall, I enjoyed this book. The story is a good one and the characters are both likable and believable. I enjoyed seeing Carley transform from cynical to coming back to God -- understandable considering her childhood experiences. Brooke was a great character and I would like to see more of her. The initial presentation of the villian made me almost not believe at first that he really did what he did and I enjoyed seeing his character develop as well.

I grew up in the same general area as where Tallulah is fictitiously located (I grew up south of Hattiesburg and this town is located northwest of Hattiesburg) and it was really fun reading about places I've been to and know about. I got a little aggravated trying to figure out where this town was supposed to be located -- some of the distances are not accurate -- but I think she based it roughly on the town of Sumrall since it is (barely) in Lamar County where 589 and 42 intersect. However, you will probably not find antique stores, Old Grist Mill restaurant, or anything exciting like that in that little town.

I'm very impressed with all the directions covered by this one story! Overcoming a lousy childhood, interaction with many characters that add to the realness of life instead of distracting me from the storyline, and so many plots to solve that wrap up satisfyingly rather than unbelievably. It was a pleasure to read a book so well written that not once was I distracted by the grammar or writing style. I very much appreciated the lack of bad language and sexual situations - but, no, this is not a dull book at all. I will absolutely read more by this author.

This is a story about how a woman's life is changed forever by inheriting an old house in a small Southern town when a grandmother she hasn't seen or been in touch with in years passes away. Carley moves to Mississippi temporarily to handle the estate and then meets the most wonderful people who help her to discover a whole new perspective on living and what is important.

I enjoyed best the family & small town descriptions of lives lived together. I enjoyed the details of lives improving. I did not enjoy reading the chapters that were of the bad guys thoughts...too depressing & sad for me. It reminded me of Ruth Rendell mysteries, which often are written from the bad guy's point of view, well written and compelling. Just not my 'cup of tea'. I loved this same author's Gresham and London series.

Lawana Blackwell is a wonderful writer and this story was very interesting to read. Although it is a Christian book, she did not go heavy-handed with scripture etc. Just good people trying to do the right thing....well almost all of them. Because this was also a bit of a mystery and there was a bad guy. I loved all the wonderful characters and the way she developed them. I was sorry when the book ended as I wanted the story to continue. Isn't that a sign of a wonderful book? By the way, I highly recommend Ms Blackwell's Gresham Chronicles series which is set in the late 1800's and has a little more Christian content (but again a great read).

This book is about a young lady with a horrible past, as a child she was abused and as an adult she never seem to fit in.

Her grandmother died after some money in the home in a small town in Mississippi . After a good business decision she moved to the town , opened up a café, and became a part of it.

The story of how she helps to solve a murder and brings peace to numbers of town adds more dimension to the book. It truly is a good southern story. And, if you like southern novels, you will truly enjoy this book.

For me, a book gets five stars if it is well written, has well-developed characters, an intelligent plot, and I'm sorry to finish the last page. This book qualifies on all accounts. It had enough twists and turns to not be too predictable. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed, but am forgiving since I enjoyed the book so much. I sincerely wish Ms. Blackwell would write a sequel to this! Love me some Lawana- I will read anything she writes.
This is a page turner about a young girl who was abused and neglected as a child. But Carley doesn't let that keep her from moving forward. When she inherits her grandmother's property she learns of family she didn't know who love her and encourage her. She then meets a teenage girl a lot like she was and so Carley learns to love and encourage others as she finds a way back to God. A good Christian mystery that I really enjoyed.
