1 Leading Your African American Church through Pastoral Transition (Valley Forge, PA: Judson Press, 2010).

Ralph Watkins is Assistant Dean ofthe African-American Church Studies Program and Associate Professor of Society, Religion, and Africana Studies. He is the author ofI Ain't Afraid to Speak My Mind (Augusta, GA: Unity Council Press, 2003), Tlie Gospel Remix: Reaching the Hip Hop Generation (Valley Forge, PA: Judson Press, 2007), Jay Z to Jesus: Reaching and Teaching Young Adults in the African American Church, which he co-authored with Benjamin Stephens (Valley Forge, PA: Judson Press, 2009), and his new book.

African-Americans (also known as Black Americans and Afro-Americans) are an ethnic group in the United States. The first achievements by African-Americans in various fields historically marked footholds, often leading to more widespread cultural change. The shorthand phrase for this is "breaking the color barrier".

This practical resource is for the incoming pastor as well as for church leaders who have responsibility for ushering a congregation through a pastoral transition.

This book is brutal, and intense in both emotion and the physical action portrayed on its pages. It's also kind of slow, but deeply thoughtful in a circular, unwinding manner. The principal conflict . .s powerful, and has a lot of both emotional and mental material that keeps the reader engaged. But it doesn't, in its course, seem to get much farther than this initial representation.

A practical resource for church leaders who have responsibility for ushering a congregation through a pastoral transition. Whether the outgoing pastor s departure is planned or unexpected, whether the new pastor is assigned or elected, author Ralph Watkins shares helpful insights, practical strategies, and biblical principles to help clergy, their family, and their congregation negotiate the change in leadership. Features a half-dozen ministry profiles based on interviews with pastors and churches that have navigated a significant pastoral change of their own.

This book was very helpful. Our church is transitioning. Our pastor came to our church in February 2017 and suggested this book to the congregation. It helped us take a look at ourselves as a Christian body and to focus on God and not our individual agendas. Would recommend it for any congregation because we are continuously transitioning.

The research and writing style is one that breaths fresh air into a major function of all Churches at some time or another. I purchased several more copies for Pastors who are interim and new Pastors. I've been a pastor over 28 years, this book has helped me greatly. The research and experience of those who know about healthy Pastoral transitions obviously Love the Lord and God's people, a great help in keeping the Church together and heaven bound.

While generally speaking it was helpful, but didn't have information about a particular issue
that was of concern.
