JOSH MCDOWELL As a young man, Josh McDowell considered himself an agnostic. He truly believed that Christianity was worthless. However, when challenged to intellectually examine the claims of Christianity, Josh discovered compelling, overwhelming evidence for the reliability of the Christian faith. In addition to the three book series, Coffee House Chronicles, Dave is the author of Why Trust Jesus? (Moody Publishers) and co-author of the book, "O" God, A Dialogue on Truth and Oprah's Spirituality. In 1961 Josh joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ International.

The Coffee House Chronicles are short, easily devoured novellas aimed at answering prevalent spiritual questions. Each book in the series tackles a long-contested question of the faith, and then answer these questions with truth through relationships and dialogue in each story. In Did the Resurrection Happen, Really?: A Dialogue on Life, Death, and Hope, the college campus is rocked by a shooting spree that leaves nine students dead.

Who is Jesus Really? is the second in a trilogy of fictional/informative books by Josh McDowell and Dave Sterrett. In this edition, the story picks up not far where Is the Bible True...Really? ended as Jamal, Dr. Peterson, Nick, and others in the story continue to wrestle with well reasoned arguments for the Christian faith. However, the fiction is simply the vehicle used to convey an actual truth. This is because the narrative is grounded on solid research that supports the Christian faith. Both McDowell and Sterrett do this by their use of endnotes to each claim they make should anyone desire further research on the claims this narrative is based on. Therefore, this book as with the rest of the series is ideal for any Christian - new or mature - to learn some basic evidential apologetic arguments, while obtaining a greater confidence in Christ.

In closing, this book as is the entire series worth the investment because they are a fun, easy, and informative read. So much so I dare say you could finish each entry in the trilogy in at least two days, if not one day a piece. Please don't pass up this page turner and it's companion books within the set.

I don't really get this approach. It appears to be a dumbing down of Christian apologetics. The idea, I guess, is to present evidence in a context where the Christian sees apologetics at work convincing and converting the unbeliever rather just a straight presentation of the evidence for Christianity. To their credit, they don't completely strawman the opposition. They present arguments that atheists and nonbelievers use. But the responses are surface level by the Christian protagonists and rarely challenged. Of course, that is all you can expect from a book this size, but still some of the arguments presented by the Christian protagonists were so off-base that I don't know how they could do anything but leave an intellectually curious questioner shaking his head wondering if this is really the best evidence available. At one point, the authors even included Francis Collins in a list of intelligent design proponents! The biggest problem, though, is that the book seems to be at odds with itself about whether a person should be using reason and evidence as the basis for deciding whether Christianity is true. Of course, the protagonists all believe that Christianity is supported by facts and evidence. But when a nonbeliever is confronted with all of the evidence that they were previously unaware of and accepts Christianity, they also have to repent for failing to believe it and misleading others. But why? If they really didn't know and the evidence that they had before suggested Christianity is untrue, why were they sinning for not believing? The answer, it is suggested, is that they didn't really disbelieve because of a lack of evidence, but because they didn't want to embrace Christianity for moral or other reasons. They wanted to be their own "god", we are told, unconstrained by biblical morality. So the underlying message is twofold: (1) Christianity is factually true and can be shown to be so by the evidence and (2) nonbelievers really don't believe because of moral reasons and not because of any honest intellectual doubts or problems. But if (2) is true, why even attempt to convert people by convincing them that it is true? It really seems to me to be a rather confused and unconvincing approach to apologetics.

I admit I didn't finish it... gave it a try but it was not my thing, I guess. It seems to be about some college students in a religious discussion group and their conversations/debates about religion. From what I got it was a lot of back and forth about the validity of different ideas... eh, lost interest pretty quickly. I am not religious myself but I like to educate myself on a wide variety of topics which includes religion. I thought this was going to be more historical, or series of essays, or something... I wasn't expecting a book of fiction without a plot.

I would give this book a 4 star rating. There were some parts for a layman seemed a little deep. But the validity of the scriptures leaves no doubt as to who Jesus is. As a believer I have walked the path of uncertainty and yet the Spirit if God kept calling me to repentance. Putting my faith in Christ has been the best decision of my life. The historical findings laid out in this book speak the truth and that in itself will lead a seeker of the truth down the path leading to salvation.

Why weren't these people around when I was in my college coffee house? I have always had faith, but was fuzzy on timelines and historical facts. This book reads like a novel and gives the reader the atheist/agnostic viewpoint as well as the Christian viewpoint. It sites concrete evidence in Christian research of Bible history. Great research and presentation. I am so thankful to the authors for this great book.

If you are unsure of who Jesus is and have questions about your faith, this is a very easy to read book. It is basic and gives you a lot to think about and resources to follow up on.
In this book, you follow some college kids and Professor as they look into the question "is Jesus real and who He says He is?"
The dialogue is easy to understand, and gives great answers about Jesus.

This book is packed with info about proving Jesus existed. It convinced me beyond a doubt. Wikipedia also helped me decide that fact as well. The story is very good and I did get into it but wouldn't it be better to write a book without hiding behind the story. Tell the facts up front from your own experience of how you learned them. That would be a great mystery and more direct.
The facts of Christ’s historicity, resurrection, and that he claimed to be God are all proven by both the bible as well as plenty of sources outside of the bible. All of this is woven into an engaging story-line about a group of Christians who have coffee shop conversations with atheists. I learned a lot and it was an enjoyable read that I couldn’t put down.
