We can look at science and religion and see conflict; or we can separate them into different worlds. A Study of Reason and Faith. This book helps the reader understand both sides of this 'conflict' and how they throw light on each other's approach. These paths offer ways of holding a rational interest in the world and scientific attempts to understand it and a lively and questioning faith in God which takes the Bible seriously. Christianity accepted reason within the ambit of faith If one conceives of religion and science according to these definitions then a conflict between them appears impossible.

Christianity accepted reason within the ambit of faith. In Christendom, reason was considered subordinate to revelation, which contained the ultimate truth and this truth could not be challenged  . If one conceives of religion and science according to these definitions then a conflict between them appears impossible. For science can only ascertain what is, but not what should be, and outside of its domain value judgments of all kinds remain necessary.

This book invites us to consider ways to remain confident in our faith as we understand and appreciate the discoveries and advances of science. How can Christians integrate, believe, or accept all the teachings of science, the Bible, and Christian tradition? How can we believe in both the discoveries of science and the Bible? Are science and religion compatible or incompatible? Does the Christian understanding that God created the universe exclude the findings and discoveries of science? What is the role of faith in the world of education? What can we believe about intelligent design? If we believe in evolution, can we believe in God? Does the Big Bang theory exclude God? If we are Christians, can we support stem-cell research and cloning? Can science help us understand the afterlife? Does science negate or support prayer? What is the difference between faith and reason? Do they exclude or complement one another? As Paul Stroble addresses these questions and others, he helps us examine different possible ways that religion and science relate to each other and ways that science and religion provide meaning and value in our lives.

Good for conservatives.

I used this book in my church with a small group of adults. It was a very good introduction to some traditional places people think Religion and Science are antagonistic. It is great for opening discussion around some fairly controversial issues. The book helps to show how religion and science can and should coexist because they investigate different things. Science is the search for what and how. It is based on evidence and theory. Religion is the search for why. Science tells us if we can do something. Religion helps guide us as to whether or not we should. Both pursuits worth our time, and to do either exclusively apart from the other is an error.

The title on the book's photo does not match the title given to it in its description on the website. This is not a review of the book, just a correction.
