Busch's 120-plus other books published since 1983 include bestsellers like David Busch's Quick Snap Guide to Digital SLR Lenses. I bought the G16 as my new "walk around" camera (getting tired of dragging along my Canon 40D with several lenses while on hikes and cruises), and it's a godsend. This little camera has as many features as my larger format DSLR (yes, it really does) and the quality of photos is excellent. I can't tell the difference, even when blowing them up on a large computer screen.

Busch's 120-plus other books published since 1983 include bestsellers like David Busch's Quick Snap Guide . Thank you David Busch for writing this comprehensive book about the G16. What I have read so far is very helpful to me, since I have never ventured out of the automatic shooting mode with my other point and shoot. My husband is into photography way more than I am and understands a great deal more about cameras.

Can't say enough about David Busch and his camera books. This book by David Busch unlocks all the secrets of the G16. Much of this camera's "horsepower" is contained within various menu settings, which I had not discovered by just trial and error, until I began reading this book. Busch's writing style is clear and concise, and he and the editors have made excellent use of color photo illustrations throughout. Not only will a photo show you what a menu setting will look like, but he'll also show you how different settings affect the final photo. There are many examples like that which make this book a "must have" for me. I take it along on all our long trips now, and learn something new every trip.

UPDATE: Have now shot day and night scenes (with excellent guidance in the book), fireworks at night, "macro" closeups of flowers and insects...all the things that my big DSLR camera can do (providing you change a few lenses). But with the author's guidance, all of these challenging shots are clearly within the capability of this camera. I would never have discovered all this without the guidance contained within the book.

Highly recommended.

I'm about halfway through the book. I like the style and the clear information. I had a guide for my G12 from a different author and I liked it and the format somewhat better. This book on the G16 is quite large and heavy, not something to carry along on a hike while learning the camera. But that's a quibble.
After mostly absorbing what I've read I'm amazed at how many features and permutations of features this camera has. I suspect that you will too. The Canon guidebook isn't organized in a way that will clearly provide this sort of information to the average user. On the other hand, many of the features and permutations are likely to never be used by me.
As far as I know, to date, this is the only non-Canon guide to the G16. I'd recommend it.

Really nice, high quality paperback with lots of photos and diagrams - It can be for the beginner (like me) or for the more advanced photographer (like I hope to soon be). I needed to learn about f stops, ISO's, white balance, etc. and this shows how with the controls and menus of the G16 specifically. I would buy this to use as your main instruction manual, period. I purchased this directly from the author, he autographed it for me inside the front cover with some encouraging words - seems like a really cool guy who's genuinely interested in teaching people photography at the level in which they are most comfortable.

I am an experienced photographer with multiple Canon cameras. After buying the G16, which is a very good camera, I spent weeks going through the manual to figure out all of its features. Unfortunately, the manual is not supplied on paper and must be downloaded. Bad apple Canon!

The manual is complicated just like the camera and DOES NOT have all of the information that you would expect it to. Certain features, like the different video image stabilization settings, just aren't explained. This book provides the additional info that you need. Canon obviously supplied the author with material that isn't available anywhere else. Trust me, I've scoured the internet looking. Again, bad apple Canon!

This book is organized pretty well but if you are an experience photographer, you'll have to wade through some basic stuff on picture taking to get what you're looking for. Still, it's worth buying.

The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars was the price. Much of it's contents should have been free with the camera. It's one of the most expensive books I've purchased in a long time.

This is a great beginners to early intermediate book and reads very quickly which is a huge plus for me. I got it to familiarize myself with the Canon Powershot G16 I learned quite a bit about the camera and some new points on photography in general. The depth of the book's descriptions for several of the settings on the camera left me wanting more. After reading this book, I believe one will be aware and have the knowledge to try the vast majority, if not all, of the features of the Canon G16 to some extent, but for some at least, this will not be the only reference desired for the camera.

There are not enough superlatives in English language to describe how well this book is written.
The author Davis D. Bunch, goes above and beyond explaining the features of this great camera in his book: much better than the manual I downloaded from the Canon web-site. This book is well written and very easy to follow.

Thank you David Busch for writing this comprehensive book about the G16. What I have read so far is very helpful to me, since I have never ventured out of the automatic shooting mode with my other point and shoot. My husband is into photography way more than I am and understands a great deal more about cameras. I am a casual photographer, mostly vacations abroad etc. and I needed a camera that was capable of shooting in low light. Also I wanted to educate myself about the G16. I know I made the right choice in buying this book, as well as the camera. I have explored already and taken some very good pictures, still a lot to learn and read.
Thanks again for writing this book and explaining how this camera can be used. Some of us are not as smart about this as others.
Although I have over 50 years of experience with cameras, including professional models, I thought a good book would help me get the most from this highly advanced point-and-shoot camera. David Busch's guide is very well written and organized, with plenty of color illustrations. Because the PowerShot 16 is not my main camera, there are some features that I haven't used and others that I am not very familiar with and forget how to use. Therefore, I have found this book to be a very handy reference and I check it frequently.
