Bob Marley Live Forever. Overview of Bob's Legacy. The Bob Marley biography provides testament to the unparalleled influence of his artistry upon global culture. Since his passing on May 11, 1981, Bob Marley’s legend looms larger than ever, as evidenced by an ever-lengthening list of accomplishments attributable to his music, which identified oppressors and agitated for social change while simultaneously allowing listeners to forget their troubles and dance. As a recipient of this distinction, Bob Marley joined musical legends including Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder and The Temptations.

Robert Nesta Marley, known to the world as Bob Marley, was born in Jamaica on February 6, 1945 and died May 11, 1981. So from the musical prophet I present the revolutionary lyrics of WAR/ NO MORE TROUBLE. In 1975, while Bob was touring Europe, he was diagnosed with Melanoma Cancer in his right big toe which spread throughout his body. Bob Marley was a singer, songwriter, musician and activist. His father was a white Jamaican and his mother black Jamaican.

Throughout his life, Bob was an artist/entrepreneur who sought to control his musical production. But his musical legacy is now in the hands of a different generation. Having been royally ripped off by successive producers in the early days, Marley was prepared, near the end of his life, to make a deal with a multinational to fund his Tuff Gong label. The post-mortem marketing of Marley has been phenomenally successful, and his estate is one of the most lucrative of any musician. For several years after his death intestate, his One Love image was mocked by a string of lawsuits, some between factions within the Marley family, some involving the Wailers.

While this book is a great source of information on the music recorded and released by Bob Marley, in fact it is the most complete Marley discography I have come across, it is painful to read due to bad editing, poor writing, and factual mistakes. It reads like it was written by a 5th grader. Anyone who listens to Bob or has read a couple of books on the Wailers should be able to spot many of these mistakes, but for some reason the author, who according to the book has spent 30 years researching Bob Marley, was not able to do so. For example, when quoting the lyrics to "Mellow Mood," the book says "My love, my sweet, my love, darling," instead of "Love, sweet love, darling" as Bob sings on the track. Given that this is the only line quoted, you'd think they could get it right...There are many similar mistakes, obvious to any reggae fan. For example, on "The Heathen," the only lyrics quoted are "Rise up freedom fighters," when anyone who has listened to the album will hear clearly "Rise up fallen fighters." Other mistakes include repeatedly referring to Bob's second lead guitarist, Junior Marvin, as Junior Murvin. This would seem like a simple spelling error, but it is repeated throughout the book and every reggae fan knows that while Junior Marvin was Bob's lead guitarist from about 1977 on, Junior Murvin was a completely different and unrelated reggae artist, the writer of the song "Police and Thieves" that was covered by The Clash. That said, the book does provide an interesting and detailed look at the early Jamaican vinyl. But seriously, if you're going to publish a book, why not do a good job?
