With the prog titans that are Coheed, that was what I expected when first listening to it. But after One and the single The Broken, You're in for a very strange, twisting and turning album at first listen. I wasn't too impressed with the album after my first listen, but it being Coheed, made me press on and re-visit the album.

Coheed and Cambria managed to grab Nick Raskulinecz for No World for Tomorrow, but they grabbed the wrong people this time. The biggest thing I can pick out would be a lack of clarity in the guitars, and with how Coheed has progressed for this record (heavy and faster), that is the worst thing they could have done. The guitars have been shifted more to the background with the drums filling too much space. It also seems like ambient noise is being played through each track-perhaps they overdid the reverb on this album. The guitar playing is phenomenal, as we can expect from Coheed, but, Travis.
Coheed & Cambria has said that this would be the final record in their multi-album concept piece, and be a prequel of sorts to the other albums. Now I would finally be able to listen to all five chapters in a row and still not have the slightest clue what the storyline is about! In all seriousness however, my first listen left me in a very bad mood. Overall, this is the weakest Coheed and Cambria album by quite a large margin, with only two songs being of any major merit, with the majority being brought down by a combination of poor production and bad songwriting.

Guitar tabs with lyrics. Track: "Year of the Black Rainbow" Album: Year of the Black Rainbow Tuning: Standard Tuning. Tabbed by Larry Jones. This seems to be one of those songs that you can just jam to. For some of the riffs, it is difficult to hear what is going on; however, I believe this tab to be very close to what they are actually playing. Regardless, I'm sure that when they do play this live it will be different than the recorded version. Come in with the lead on the second time.

I can comfortably (but at the risk of pitchforks) admit this is one of Coheed and Cambria's strongest albums, and this is coming from a massive C&C fan that keeps IKSSE:3 and Good Apollo Vol. 1 on repeat almost constantly otherwise.
