From his first number one hit in 1940 to his last multi-platinum LP in 1994, only Elvis and The Beatles rival Frank Sinatra as the most important figures in 20th century popular music. And through his first small movie role, Higher and Higher in 1943, to his last, The First Deadly Sin in 1980, via more than 70 films, Frank Sinatra rose beyond mere icon to become a quasi-mythical, globally idolised cultural institution. As such, it makes the achievements of legendary Hollywood photographer Bob Willoughby all the more impressive. For even during the '50s and '60s zenith of the Sinatra myth, Willoughby became one of the very few photographers to capture not only the charm, charisma and dangerous cool of Sinatra the untouchable "Chairman of the Board", but also the tenderness and fragility of Frankie the father, the friend and human being. Beginning on the set of his Oscar-winning portrayal of Maggio in From Here To Eternity, through to the heady, hard-drinking razzmatazz of the Rat Pack's Las Vegas residency to film the original Ocean's 11, Tilloughby's beautifully collated portfolio includes stolen moments between Sinatra and a host of his friends and costars, including Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Montgomery Clift, Burt Lancaster, Shirley MacLaine and Judy Garland. Elsewhere in the book we see Sinatra negotiating with film producers, hanging with fellow Rats, giving it the irresistible "Old Blue-Eyes" whammy to Kim Novak and Juliet Prowse, turning on the magic on stage and enjoying quiet moments at home with his daughter Nancy. And while many of the images have become classics and will be familiar to even the most casual admirers, more still previously unpublished glimpses of Sinatra's turbulent life. Put together, they represent the most illuminating insights into the heydey of the Hoboken player ever printed, and serve as a complimentary companion to Willoughby's Audrey Hepburn collection, recently published by Vision On to widespread acclaim. Start spreading the news.

Sinatra: An Intimate Collection is an absolute must for any Frank Sinatra fan. Bob Willoughby, one of the best photographers of celebrities in the 50s and 60s, shot Sinatra at various points in his life from 1953 to 1965. Most of these photos (210 pages of them!) are rare shots which cannot be found anywhere else. They include Sinatra at a table reading and scoping out the sets for The Man with the Golden Arm, goofing around with Judy Garland and Dean Martin rehearsing for their TV special together, performing at his daughter Nancy's high school, hanging out on the stage and in the steam room with The Rat Pack, socializing with various set visitors like Jerry Lewis and Natalie Wood, and more. The best are the pictures from the set of The Man with the Golden Arm, which are gorgeous and both black & white and color, and show Frank's dedication to and concentration on the role. Buy this book immediately, you won't regret it.

This book is a suberb look at Frank Sinatra from photos that have never been seen before and are simply fascinating. The book itself is beautifully put together and every picture gleams.
The captions are extensive and informative. A lot of care went into this book. In many ways it is superior to the It Was a Very Good Year Book, which was much more popular - higher quality photos, a lot in color, a lot of prime information about some of Sinatra's best films. If you are thinking of getting this, GET IT!! You won't be sorry!

"Frank's luster never dimmed. He made film after film, and the great recordings he made are being played to this day. He was bigger than life: he had something special; the rare talent that meant when he sang, it was difficult, if not impossible, to ignore that ol' black magic in his voice." ~ Bob Willoughby's Reflection on Frank Sinatra, 2002 ~

This is a collection of Frank Sinatra's never before published intimate photos with detailed captions, mostly snap shots taken by the legendary Hollywood photographer, Bob Willoughby, who also did photo collections of Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. This 207-page paperback is virtually a 'feast-for-the-eyes' for any fan of the Chairman of the Board.

Willoughby focused on the singer/actor's very good years in the movies from 1953 thru 1965, commencing with the movie "From Here To Eternity" which was a blockbuster at the box office and garnered numerous Oscar Awards, to his 1965 movie, "Marriage On The Rocks" with Deborah Kerr, Dean Martin and Sinatra's daughter, Nancy. On this section shows a full-page photo of Sinatra standing in front of a Divorce Attorney's office which has a big sign that reads: "Divorce your loved one with dignity." Mr. Willoughby did a fantastic job in putting all these photos together, spotlighting on Sinatra's stolen moments with his co-stars Dean Martin, Deborah Kerr, Shirley MacLain, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, Judy Garland, Kim Novak and also the great arranger/conductor and Sinatra's very good friend, Nelson Riddle, among many others.

Highly recommended to all Sinatra enthusiasts. This will be a nice addition to your Sinatra books.
