The look and tactility of this book are very pleasing, very satisfying. Glossy black, the obverse of the sturdy cover has a stylized Catwoman in purple cowl and bodysuit, brandishing her signature whip, and this image is rendered in a contrasting matte finish. Sprinkled in cinnamon, set in script, the yellow title, along with the orange and matching purple for the subtitle and author, contrasts boldly and offers a high visual impact.

This book is a great tribute to Catwoman, and it's just as stylish as she is! Readers will love the purple vinyl cover and will ooh and ahh over the hundreds of color photos. There is information on Catwoman from all the various phases of her life, including comic book, movie, and television appearances. The book contains a small amount of history on Catwoman, but it's not very in-depth. This is supposed to be a fun pictorial tribute to everyone's favorite feline fatale, and that's exactly what it is.

Batman has been the subject of many debates as to what team he plays upon and with the introduction of The Catwoman the story becomes even more complicated. Selina Kane, is a foe, a killer, a lover and a tormented loner forever trapped in the darkest of nights. This amazing character is most of what Batman is and Bruce and Selina look at each other like they are gazing into a mirror as they both see the image of themselves looking back at them. Catwoman is a woman of power and a damaged creature all in one slinky package.

Bruce Wayne, was supposed to be a Playboy and a ladies man but when The Catwoman is around all of that is out the window as he only has eyes for Selina. Catwoman is twisted and close to the brink of insanity but she is also very aware of her role in dominating Batman and control is on her side of the street. Children, will read these stories and see it all in black and white as good vs. evil but this isn't for the kiddies. Catwoman, is from an adult world that isn't simple or straight-forward. The story of this woman of the shadows has been told over and over since ancient times and as the decades unfold the story of The Catwoman only becomes a hotter tale.

This book isn't a straight biography of Catwoman as the author and editors choose to make this all about design and style and this book plays to the strength of the subject as the sex is indeed here for all to see and it plays out from 1940 throught to 2003 with many, many images of a cat in transition but as Adam West states in the introduction this woman is all you need and desire and logic will lose when she is near. The danger is real but you want it! The text of this document is not an expose full of insight as the demons that drive Selina and there is no story found here to bring any new light into Catwoman's background.

This book isn't essential Bat-reading by any means but it sure is a lot of fun and done up in proper style to make little boys of all ages happy.

This was a very pretty book to look at, but it didn't offer much information. It listed the women who played Catwoman on TV and film, and it gave a bit of background regarding her origin story ... and that was it. The rest was a bunch of cute profile quips, fashion tips, and bits of attitude, all accompanied with collages of panels from the comics.
If you're looking a sassy coffee table book with gorgeous artwork, this book is great. It's spunky, well-designed, and fun to look at. Don't expect much actual background information, though. It didn't offer any info about the various books she's been in. No information about who has written her and who has drawn her (beyond call-out quotes from some of these creators). I really would have liked credits and more descriptive text to accompany the artwork. The additional sketchbook pages were nice but ultimately not much more than what you get in the current comic.
Overall it really reminded me of a puff piece in a women's magazine like Cosmo Girl - very nice to look at, but light on information.

I wish I had taken the book description a little more seriously before deciding to buy this.
It's a beautifully designed book, as is usually the case with anything from Chronicle Books. However, I'm rather disappointed with the book overall. I had hoped/expected it to be similar -- but on a smaller scale -- to Chronicle Books' "history of" books on Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
It's packed with pictures, the majority of which are from the Golden and Silver Age era. Of course, the Modern Age, Animated, and Movie versions are represented as well.
The book touches on many things about Catwoman's history and evolution, but there's very little depth to any of it. I'm not against having a "fun" book about Catwoman, but at times it's just too cutesy and precious.
I would have liked more anecdotes and stories from people who worked on the character, from writers to artists to actors. After having read it last night (it's a very short read), the only interesting thing that I remember is the differences between Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt's takes on the character.
If you're a casual Catwoman fan, I wouldn't bother. Diehard fans will love all the pictures and graphics, but there's little else to recommend it.
