Stanley Maltzman has written a good book! But as always with a teacher or book, it is the artist within that does the real art. Books like this are wonderful for inspiration and daring to explore the "inner artist." If the aim of the buyer is just to copy someone else's work then it may not seem so effective. Real art comes through experimentation by opening the door of personal creativity. Experiment, succeed, fail, grow the artist within. In football or art school you get a coach but the coach does not run the play or draw the drawing. It's not about perfection it's about opening the door to personal growth and everyday happiness.

An excellent drawing book. Good instructions and illustrations. Mr. Maltzman truly understands how to draw and how to explain what he is doing and why. As the preview images showed little, this was a most happy surprise. far better than I had expected.As I got this as a used book for only $4.00 (ish) it was more than worth the price!

This book is a classic in it's own right. it will give you skills that cross into all types of drawing. It will help you see and replicate the world around you with accuracy and focus. I have owned many of the great books on learning to draw over the years...There are just a few that still remain........This is one of them. It's inspiration is invaluable even after a lifetime of drawing.
