Alberto Burri (12 March 1915 – 13 February 1995), Italian pronunciation: ; was an Italian visual artist, painter, sculptor and physician based in Città di Castello. He is associated with the matterism of the European informal art movement and described his style as a polymaterialist. Having recently discovered the work of Burri and being very excited about it, I was eager to have as comprehensive a collection of his work as I could find. Amazon had one listed through Midtown Scholars Books in Harrisburg, PA, that sells for more than $250. I assumed that it would have a sizable number of prints, selling at that price. NOT. It is slim volume of a very few of his works (not including his most lovely Sacking and Red); I think it must have been a reference guide for one of his shows. I was enormously disappointed and sent it back. Of course, I had to pay a "restocking fee" of $25 to return it, and I'll never trade with that bookstore again.

The synopsis of this book was inadequate, and the book was inadequate.

The description currently lists this book as having 31 pages. It is actually a 166 page hardbound edition published in 1975. It is 10 1/2" wide x 12 1/2" tall x 1 1/8" thick. There is a 15 page forward by Maurizio Calvesi (translated by Robert E. Wolf) about the artist followed by a biographical note (1915-1965), one-man and group exhibitions (1947-1970), bibliography, and a listing of illustrations (with original dimensions, dates, and some collection information). The illustration list totals 163 images starting from 1949 and ending with 1966. 82 images are in color while 81 are in black and white. All the images contained waste little of the page size while maintaining tasteful white space. The images themselves are very detailed and well lit. The lack of 5 stars is due to half the images being printed in black and white; however, If you have the means I highly recommend picking one up.
